Vettel leads Red Bull one-two

Eurosport - Mon, 22 Jun 09:13:00 2009

Sebastian Vettel produced a faultless drive at Silverstone to lead a Red Bull one-two in the British Grand Prix.

2009 British GP Sebastian Vettel wins - 0

The 21-year-old tyro finished 15.188 secs ahead of Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber to prove that the much-improved Milton Keynes-based team have the potential to challenge for world championship honours in the second half of the season.

Vettel started from the fourth pole of his career and was never challenged as he pulled clear from the start and delivered a perfectly-judged drive to secure the third win of his brief career - and his first in dry weather.

His two previous wins came in torrential rain in Italy last year and China earlier this season. This time he was able to reel off a series of fastest laps as he dominated proceedings under a partly-sunny sky.

Webber came home second ahead of Brazilians veteran Rubens Barrichello in a Brawn and his compatriot, Brazilian Felipe Massa of Ferrari.

German Nico Rosberg finished fifth for Williams ahead of world championship leader Jenson Button in his Brawn, Finn Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari and German Timo Glock for Toyota.

"Thankyou guys," said Vettel to his team on the slowing down lap. "It is a dream coming true! We have won the British Grand Prix."

Vettel's win cut Button's lead in the drivers championship - the Briton now has 64 points with Barrichello second on 41 and Vettel third on 39. In the constructors' championship, Brawn lead with 105 ahead of Red Bull on 74.5.

After all the political chicanery for the previous three days, the race was a rather dull and predictable affair with a huge crowd, and a paddock packed with celebrities, treated to a demonstration drive by Vettel.

In what is widely expected to be Silverstone's final British Grand Prix, 60 years after hosting the first world championship race in 1950, there was precious little for the home fans to cheer.

World championship leader Button started from sixth and struggled with his tyres as he battled to finish sixth while defending champion Lewis Hamilton gave everything in a spectacular and incident-filled outing that saw him start 18th and finish 16th.

  3. Mr Bristow I am so sorry I have offended you, especially you because one day I thought you and I could become lovers. I admire your posts so much lover boy.

But can I put you write on a couple of things please?

    i) I do Potter, Bernard, Marnio,
ii) Torounroute does Torounroute, Burt, Stephen W and Anthony + many, many others.
iii) Francis Stirling, from Glasgow does Francis S and one or two others.

So there are at least 3 uber-muppets posting the rubbish that so pollutes this site.

  4. Jeanette Bolan: You are right, you are a sad, sad old woman and sadly enough has nothing else to do but write up your stupid donkey jokes, your making an a.s.s of yourself, you say you hate Britain and yet write on this site. You sad old woman, go and jump off the bridge with Touronroute, you both belong together and maybe you can get married and amke the leap of faith off the bridge. One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind. And for the record, if you want to know the truth, Britain is a great nation, and has achieved great things on this earth, and Britain has planted and established other nations out of the great nation of Great Britain, and I will name them, the United Sates, Canada with the French, Australia, New Zealand, and made Hong Kong a city of great wealth and has handed it over to the Chinese in great order. And look what Great Britain has done, been on the frontlines of every World War with its allies standing side by side. All of the great nations of the world are British planted countries, and Queen Lizy is a great Queen. And don't you forget it smart a.s.s.

  6. A question often asked of me is why don't I write some new posts and not just post the same old Potter, Bernard, Marion and Marnio posts? Its a good question and I suppose the answer is that I am a sad old woman who has nothing better to do and these posts take me days to write because I am so stupid. When I post them you lot thumb them down so I have to keep re-posting them, its all I have left in life.

i must admit after reading some of these posts Touron does have a point.
Why did glok slow down so much in the last lap..
Why was glok driving on the wet side of the track in the last few remaining bends allowing hamilton to take the inside DRY line to victory.
HHHmmmmmm.....seems a little suspicious to me...Can anyone enlighten me as to why Glok lost so much time on the Last Lap it was if he was abducted by the ALIENS
    Whats it all about..
Why cant this question be answered especially by mclaren fans and especially by Doughnut Ray $%^&...
Why has the evidence ie..the last lap of the brazilian GB especially the last few corners been removed from You Tube..
Why do Mclaren fans keep running away from this question and the Truth..
people keep saying wait till jeremey clarkson show..all will be revealed...
i mean considering glok was on slick tyres why was he driving right in the wet line of the track on the last few corners..everyone keeps saying they are surprised he finished at all considering the conditions...Various posts state it was like an ice rink...
So why was Glok driving in the WET on SLICKS on the WET LINE NOT/ THE DRY LINE on the last few bends....please tell im waiting and have been all Day and probably will be for a long time yet.

  18. Is there any doubt that Adrian Newey, Chief Technical Officer at Red Bull, is one of the smartest men in Formula 1? The Red Bull cars showed amazing pace and stability at Silverstone. With Vettel and Webber driving his cars Brawn GP better do some serious work on updating their cars.

HELEN: Coulthardt? really? If he says Vettel is immature, it has to be that way? We are talking about the guy that got his azz handed to him by the driver that is getting his azz handed to him by Vettel. Vettel outqualified Webber 8:0 and with a little more luck would be even further away in the standings. If you look at Vettel's demeanor on and off the track, his carefully chosen words when addressing the FIA FOTA situation... this kid is not immature - based on the word's meaning when addressing people as immature: exhibiting less than an expected degree of maturity - he has always exhibited the expected degree of maturity and then some and he is certainly more mature than some of the more experienced guys out there..... Inexperienced? Sure- I give you that....immmature? no.
