Sebastian Vettel produced a faultless drive at Silverstone to lead a Red Bull one-two in the British Grand Prix.
The 21-year-old tyro finished 15.188 secs ahead of Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber to prove that the much-improved Milton Keynes-based team have the potential to challenge for world championship honours in the second half of the season.
Vettel started from the fourth pole of his career and was never challenged as he pulled clear from the start and delivered a perfectly-judged drive to secure the third win of his brief career - and his first in dry weather.
His two previous wins came in torrential rain in Italy last year and China earlier this season. This time he was able to reel off a series of fastest laps as he dominated proceedings under a partly-sunny sky.
Webber came home second ahead of Brazilians veteran Rubens Barrichello in a Brawn and his compatriot, Brazilian Felipe Massa of Ferrari.
German Nico Rosberg finished fifth for Williams ahead of world championship leader Jenson Button in his Brawn, Finn Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari and German Timo Glock for Toyota.
"Thankyou guys," said Vettel to his team on the slowing down lap. "It is a dream coming true! We have won the British Grand Prix."
Vettel's win cut Button's lead in the drivers championship - the Briton now has 64 points with Barrichello second on 41 and Vettel third on 39. In the constructors' championship, Brawn lead with 105 ahead of Red Bull on 74.5.
After all the political chicanery for the previous three days, the race was a rather dull and predictable affair with a huge crowd, and a paddock packed with celebrities, treated to a demonstration drive by Vettel.
In what is widely expected to be Silverstone's final British Grand Prix, 60 years after hosting the first world championship race in 1950, there was precious little for the home fans to cheer.
World championship leader Button started from sixth and struggled with his tyres as he battled to finish sixth while defending champion Lewis Hamilton gave everything in a spectacular and incident-filled outing that saw him start 18th and finish 16th.

That was so boring I lost interest around half way through and stopped watching, knowing I wouldn't miss anything. Apart from a couple of bits of driver error (were they just as bored?) there was nothing. Even the drivers pretty much knew the result after qualifying, Button knew he wouldn't get a podium, Vettel knew he'd win, Barrachello knew that strategy would leave him behind Webber. Lets get back to racing, and drivers looking after their cars - no pitstops to refuel, all starting the race at the same weight, maybe keep the two types of tyre rule (these days even a tyre change doesnt have to be done quickly as they wait for the fuel to go in), but drivers would have to look after their tyres as they do in MotoGP.
the hamster slapping will go on and on and on and on and on and on.
I see you left a message for me Francis S, but unfortunately I am extremely busy as I have to get a piece of work done. Just looking in now and again at the moment when I need to have a break.

How mentally unstable is the guy below in comment 156 ? He is very pro-german but is South American. Hmmm.....Pro-German and South American.....I'm detecting something here. I wonder if he is a result of all those experiments the Nazis like Josef Mengele undertook whilst on the run in South Amercia ?
HELLO MY LITTLE F1 BUDDIES THIS IS YOUR FRIEND MARINARO4 FROM PERU.
WHAT A TREASURE IS MR HAMILTONS SON, THE ONE THAT MOST OF YOU HAVE ABANDONED.
YOU BRITISH HAVE NO SHAME, YOU ONLY SUPPORT THOSE WHO WIN.
NOW YOU WILL PAY FOR YOUR BETRAYAL OF MR HAMILTONS SON.

useless hamster,slapped and lapped.
by an overwhelming majority, the drivers, the sponsors, the team owners, and most importantly the SPECTATORSboth at the track and at home in front of thier TVs all say that the British GPs true and proper home is Silverstone, yet Ecclestone will not listen,or care. All just because he got his car stuck in the mud once, senile old fool.
TRMX13: it's not your fault that you are the illigitimate offspring of a Nazi and a Prostitute - that is Mad Max and The Poisened Dwarf.
Why do Lewis fans watch F1, if all they can say is "What a boring race!" Avoid boring weekends for ever. Stop hoping in vain for a Lewis win, and get behind Britains best driver in decades! Button!
the hamster was well and truely slapped.
Stop being so Naive people. There will be no break away series. Just because you WANT it, doesn't make it so. The numbers ($) just don't allow for it.
Red bull will go to germany to repeat 1-2.
