Gibson puts United first

Mon 22 Jun, 01:29 PM

Darron Gibson is prepared to put his World Cup dream on hold to make it at Manchester United.

The 21-year-old would almost certainly be part of Giovanni Trapattoni's squad if the Republic of Ireland made it to South Africa next year, providing he could secure regular top-flight action.

Everton are among the clubs interested in acquiring Gibson, who made 14 appearances for the Red Devils last season.

However, even though he realises his chances at Old Trafford are likely to be limited, Gibson wants to sign another contract with Sir Alex Ferguson's men.

"My contract is coming to an end so, hopefully, at the end of the month I'll be signing a new one," said Gibson. "My current deal ends at the end of next season but, normally, a player would enter into new contract talks at the end of this month.

"I've been told that a few clubs had expressed an interest in signing me but I want to give it a good push and have a proper go at it next season before I decide to go anywhere else."

  1. what is happening with Rossi , been at Villa Real for 2 seasons is he still a utd player? did you see him play in confederations cup Alex he is brilliant , cant remember anyone hitting a ball from 35 yards in open play like that since Sir Bobby, come on Sir Alex get him home.

  2. I like Darren Gibson, he has a great shot, and can come on in time given the opportunity. If we could blend his shooting with Anderson's movement and passing we would have a world class player. If Hargeaves ever makes it back, it would allow Gibson to get more ball in the danger areas where he could let fly, but at the moment the midfield is not balanced and does not have a cutting edge. Come on Fergie sort it out!!

  3. Darren Fletcher was in the same positionand he stuck it out and reaped the rewards so if Gibson can be patient i,m sure he will reap the rewards and any way to leave it would only be to a lesser team with no realistic chance of honours

  4. As a united and Ireland supporter, I'd like to see Gibson given a chance to play in the premiership. He's a good hard working player and if he's given the chance I'm sure he can prove himself.

  5. Gibson is a good honest player but like most of United's midfielders, he does not provide the answer to solving our skill shortage in this area of the game.
