Liverpool have appointed Christian Purslow as managing director with the brief of taking overall management of the club until a new chief executive is in place.
Purslow will represent owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks and liaise with manager Rafael Benitez on his summer transfer dealings.
Gillett told the club's official website, www.liverpoolfc.tv: "Tom and I felt that it was important to put a highly experienced and respected executive in place to run the club and support the senior team and the manager."
He added: "There's a lot to get done over the summer to build on the great season we just had and Christian will be a valuable addition to the team."
Hicks added: "Christian has been a great supporter of the club for many years and he's already built up good relationships at Anfield.
"His strategic and commercial acumen will be a real asset and we're delighted that he has made a long term commitment to the club."
Forty-five-year-old Purslow, a long-time season ticket holder at Anfield, is also an executive board member and co-founder of private equity firm MidOcean Partners.
A fluent Spanish speaker, Purslow possesses an MBA from Harvard Business School.
He will become a board director when the club find a replacement for outgoing chief executive Rick Parry.

i think we should all have faith man...we have been as close as we have ever been last season...as long as we hold onto alonso and mascherano we will look strong with a couple of good signings..i think everyone forgets we only lost 2 games...and johnson is a good start
p.p.ballinger,dont agree, how much will he cost? 30mil? Not worth it,yes he works hard but not a natural/proven goalscorer. could buy better 4 less!! ynwa
buy tevez simple him up front great
Nice to see the club have done a couple of signings so far this summer. If not players. The backroom seems to be back in place now. So now can we get a striker, right winger and defender signed. After all this is what is need on the pitch.
Pity it looks like Hicks and Gillet will be staying with Gillet's sale of his hockey team looking like going through. These men have done nothing but make the club look a joke off the field. But there is still time to prove us wrong by getting it right at last and actually backing the team and winning the league. Instead of fighting each other and everyone else at the club. Lets hope they've learnt from their mistakes.
This is gr8 news but abit late.Hope the sell of one of the Yanks assets will provide a little fund for Mr Xtian and the Manager to buy a winger and a defender as a start to make Maniac fans start trembling
