Rodgers makes fans plea

Mon 22 Jun, 02:57 PM

Reading manager Brendan Rodgers has pledged to "give his life to the club" as he called on fans to become his 13th man.

Former Watford boss Rodgers, installed as Steve Coppell's replacement earlier this month, spent nine years as youth-team manager at the Madejski Stadium until 2004 when he took on a similar role at Chelsea. He took charge at Vicarage Road in November 2008.

Rodgers told the Royals' official website: "Our supporters are absolutely vital. They are down as number 13 on the teamsheet and they certainly are just that. The atmosphere they can create and the intensity of their emotion, it helps the players, no question.

"It's my job, with the players, to ensure that energy returns and the way to do that is with entertaining and exciting football and of course winning football.

"The fans are a major factor and I say to them `I can't do it on my own, I can't do it without you.'

"The message I give to them is that I'm now one of you. I'm the biggest supporter of Reading and will give my life to the football club."

  4. Hahahahahahahahahahah Phil peeing off his own team fans hahahahahahahaha as for F*ck Off Rodgers giving his life for the club he said he was going nowhere at Watford and then, I think words are cheap from that mans lips as is your future team.

  5. i hope you are right and the money he generates is spent on players. we will see i doubt it . but i hope you are right and i am wrong. just think if he had spent a little money we would still be in prem lge . i really hope you are right. i think mr madjeski has got his money back now.

  6. You can't blame Madjetski for holding onto his purse strings, after all the millions he has spent over the years at Reading, I expect even though he is a millionaire he might be feeling the pinch what with the reccesion. I don't expect a lot of fans see it like that. Any player that is sold now, the transfer money that they get for them should be ploughed back into the team to buy some new players and I should imagine that is what is going to happen, I can't see John Madjetski letting Reading go down hill after all that he has put in to building them up. Phil.Hayward1 is always going on about that, that is his swan song. Is he jealous because Matjetski has got more money than he has, ot what.

  7. brendan rogers is fine .its madjeski who needs to help by loosening the purse strings.he is just pocketing all the money and spending none!

  8. Give the man a chance. Lets see what he can do. Every one who is a out & out Reading fan should get behind the team and manager. I know that Steve Coppell will be hard to follow and I expect Brendan Rogers realises that. It is very hard finding another manager who is as good as Steve, so we must hope and pray that Mr Rodgers is up to the job. So give him a chance, lets see what he can do. Come on URzzzzzzzzzzz.
