Santa Cruz seals move to City

Mon 22 Jun, 05:15 PM

Roque Santa Cruz has completed his £17million move to Manchester City.

The Paraguayan passed a medical with the Eastlands outfit on Monday afternoon and has now signed a deal to link up once more with Mark Hughes, his former manager at Blackburn.

Hughes has never made any secret of his desire to have Santa Cruz at City and having assured themselves the knee injury that kept the South American out at the end of last season has fully cleared up, the Blues have completed the signing of the striker.

  1. Your missing the point, and it has zilch to do with character and everything to do with money and
opportunity. Since your too close to Rovers let me give you the picture from Sheffield. It is a medium
sized city with a small media market. They have two sides trying to get into the Premiership and
stay there. There is no way on earth that can be financed, no matter they become the benes of all
the community charities for the next decade. Build a new large stadium with all the bells and
whistles that is readily accessible from the four points, and merge the sides -would be a
beginning. Not bloody likely, all the owls and others would scream, and not show up. Which isn't
any different than they do nothing, and pack the house for every game they play on their current
    pitches.
EWOOD is an old average size pitch in the smallest city in the Premiership, that can't be sold out
even with ticket prices below league average. The local media market doesn't exist except for the
presence of other nearby small sides like Wigan, which build the audience. Mark Hughes, will
succeed or fail on whether he can get along with all the stars he has brought on side. He knows
the basics, which is true of all experienced coaches anywhere in any top league, but dealing with
the top players successfully is what will count. If he can't, ManCity will find some one who will. They
will have Manchester Stadium filled with fans paying top prices, and be part of a large media market,
along with their local rival that is in a similar big stadium.
Figuring out an acceptable way to deal with the advantages of the teams that play in large
media markets, and have large sold out pitches is what has to be done.
I can't see any way around changing the way we are set up, root and plant, to accomplish
    that.
Maybe we can go along winning the battle to stay up each year, and that is what will
be the purpose of each Rover season. I hope not, but that is how it
