Swindon manager Maurice Malpas has given up on signing former Southend midfielder Kevin Maher during the summer transfer window.The 31-year-old - who is also being coveted by Gillingham and Oldham - met with the Robins boss last week, but his failure to respond to the offer has led to Malpas ending his interest.

He told the Swindon Advertiser: "He's not got back to me so that's dead in the water.

"The search goes on and there are some irons in the fire."
