The United States beat three-time champions Cuba into second place in Sydney while Japan have finished on the podium on three occasions.

The sport is dominated by teams from North America and the Far East with no European nations ever having recorded a podium finish.

It is true the USA hasn't won all of the Olympic competitions involving baseball. I also noticed that Greece doesn't win all the track and field games that were in the original Olympics. I am personally glad there is more parity among countries in sports, no matter what the sport's origin is.
