Premier League - Chelsea: Robinho yes, Eto'o no

Eurosport - Tue, 22 Jul 16:45:00 2008

Chelsea continue to play out their summer of transfer activity in public, with the club's chief executive admitting an interest in Robinho.

2008 Brazil Robinho - 0

Real Madrid value the Brazilian forward at around £30m and are believed to have offered him to Manchester United as a makeweight in a deal for Cristiano Ronaldo.

"I think as far as Robinho is concerned it is quite right he has been one of our targets," Peter Kenyon said.

"We have had several conversations with Madrid and he is a player we think that would add a great deal to Chelsea.

"We have got a fantastic squad and that has been strengthened with Bosingwa and Deco and I think the coach was just looking for one more to complete what he thinks is the perfect squad.

"There is still a long way to go on that one, but we are very, very interested and the clubs are in dialogue."

Robinho's agent has claimed the player would be keen to leave Real and link up with former Brazil boss Scolari.

The Blues have also rubbished Samuel Eto'o's claim that they have bid for him. The unsettled Barcelona forward said on the club's pre-season tour to Scotland that "Chelsea, Tottenham and Inter" were among the clubs offering him a way out of the Camp Nou.

But a Chelsea spokesperson said: "We deny making a bid or any offer for Eto'o."

Meanwhile, the club's efforts to sign Kaka from Milan also seem to be running out of steam with the Serie A giants having turned down several offers for the playmaker.

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani rejected claims Chelsea have made a giant £120m bid for Kaka and also revealed that Real Madrid have renewed their interest in him.

However, Milan remain adamant they will not surrender their star player.

"We'll never sell him, even if a 300 million euro (£238m) offer is made. The only reason for us to sell him would be if the player said he wanted to leave," said Galliani.

  2. I think Robinho will come but I can't really see Kaka or Eto'o coming.

Drogba and Eto'o could be an interesting partnership, both are perceived - and I say perceived because the media twist a lot of stuff and I don't know them as people - to be difficult characters.

  7. rambob_02, u are a dumb @#$%...how can u even compare eto to Berbatov lol. not even close when it come to scoreing and skill. Eto will distroy Berbatov pound for pound. ETO is stronger faster smarter and a better finisher than Berbatov. you only need to give eto one chance and he will get the job done unlike Berbatov. maybe skill whiles they are on the same level or eto is lil bit better. other than that eto it better than him in everything else.

  8. Chris A, you will agree that MONEY just spoiled the football not foreigner. In fact the EPL become one of the best league in world since the arrival of different players and managers. Look at arsenal 15 years ago, look at chelsea, liverpool basically all the team are getting better and better. Back in the 50-60 they were playing good football it was more about skills but now with all the New Technology you can compete with big clubs. But anyway my point was you really need foreigner in your league to improve as simple as that! If you not happy with that you better start watching NETBALL or something else ... But good point Chris A

  15. ENZ54....once again, first of all, when did i say Villa could do the premier league....i dint!!!! Torres is a great player, Henry was a great player at Arsenal, not so much at Barca, also you try and name me one player who has done well when going from England to Spain, cause i cant think of any. Owen was a good player, came back worst, Beckham was ok, now plays in America???? Van Nistelroy, aint that good anymore compared to how he was!!! But its all to do with the service of the striker, at Liverpool, Torres has the best midfield player to support him (Gerrard) and even Alonso so your gonna get good service no matter what!!!!
Your obviously a Barca fan, cause Eto'o aint all that great but c'mon ive asked 5 people at work who you would rather have, n they all said Berbatov

  16. ens54 your statement of football being boring if we had no overseas players ? well when we did not have all these money takers we still had great footballers and games were tough then now they cry if they miss a penalty and fall as if they been shot , football if you are a true fan of the game was just as good before as it is now , so all i can say to you is that your a plastic fan only watches when your club is doing well , we have always had great football before the overseas players came ,

From Chris A, on Tue 22 Jul 2:36PM
  17. Viiva Man U, we have seen Chelsea buy the BEST of the BEST players in the world. Where are those players now?
    Ballack, Chechenko, Droba etc.
Chelsea should mature like Man U .....

  19. Even if Chelscum buy the whole footballing world they will still win nothing come May 2009. This club is an embarrassment. They want to buy every player in the world. At the end of the day only eleven players play football.
