Premier League - Spurs hand in Berbatov dossier

Eurosport - Tue, 22 Jul 09:01:00 2008

Tottenham have given the Premier League a dossier of evidence from over the last year to back up their complaint against Manchester United's pursuit of Dimitar Berbatov.

2008 Tottenham Hotspur Dimitar Berbatov - 0

Sir Alex Ferguson has questioned the validity of comments attributed to him last week regarding the Bulgaria striker but that is understood to be only one of Spurs' concerns in the past 12 months.

Spurs have been angered by United and Liverpool, who are chasing Robbie Keane, and the two clubs will write back in response to the complaints before it is decided whether they will face a charge.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has accepted that Berbatov and Keane want to leave White Hart Lane but there is expected to be a fall-out from the transfers if they go through, given that Ferguson has been accused of "sheer arrogance" and being "hypocritical".

Spurs believe United have broken Premier League rules in the last year and are confident their evidence will support their complaint.

Berbatov, 27, interested United before moving to Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in 2006 and has been consistently linked with a move to Old Trafford for Champions League football since his successful rookie season in England.

Levy's criticism of Liverpool in his statement last week was less harsh than he was on United, although he has been upset by Rafael Benitez before. In March 2006 the Liverpool boss claimed Spurs were "desperate" to sell Jermain Defoe and take Djibril Cisse.

  3. jack.a.roo I don't like many chairmen in football these days I have no favourites, what I see it as is bigger clubs (United) exploiting the smaller clubs with whatever tactics they want, knowing that their attraction of trophies will make sure the deal goes through anyway. As for respect, look at the way Mourinho has handled the situation with Lampard, he's gone out and said he doesn't want to upset relationships, thats how it should be. After this Tottenham and Man U relationship will be soured forever, because United haven't respected Spurs.

  6. It's interesting that whilst the UK economy is collapsing and 600,000 people emigrated last year the clubs are still throwing money away like water. At least Spurs are a profitable listed company unlike Liverpool (almost bust). Levy won't budge with berba for less than 30M if his head is turned a new striker will come in and he'll sit on the bench with the red light on just deserts for not meeting his contract

  7. spurs fans are treated as stupid by levy ? he wants to sell those players for big money and then try to make it look like man u have started it all , ???? are you spurs fans that stupid ??? he always does it and you fall for it , and clf next season or the next is a joke , spurs like newcastle fans are treated by the owners as idiots ,

  8. RAMBR0; im afraid the media has too much influence nowadays. If Spurs never hinted to selling the pair of players then it's either a club paid for all these false media speculation, or the media is jus damn right bored and make up all kinds of "^"$^"""^"$**.

However, even if these media reports are unreal, it does not mean the players involved cannot come out and reiterate their desire to stay put. The truth is, the reports in the media do have some truth as the players are unwilling to come out to decline for themselves.

Look at fabregas, he came out and said he will not leave. now the media cant write anything about him. and even now that hleb has urged him to leave there is still not much to write, coz he announced he will not leave and loves the club.

Players need to make up their mind nowadays and stop signing ridiculously long contracts, that they will likely not honor the full duration of.

  9. To the guy who said Chelsea never get punished.

Ok then, Chelsea get fined for crowding the ref, EVERY OTHER CLUB LAST SEASON DONE IT AND GOT AWAY WITH IT?

  10. How much of it was just press speculation, like this very forum that has it's transfer news and rumours? Or also can it be the agent hinting he has had an offer trying to up his client's worth when really there had been nothing said in the first place. It would not be the first time an agent said a bigger club was interested in a player when actually nothing had been said at all. Plus then you get a journo with time on his hands and thinks that a certain player might fit in at another club and might write and article on that sort of line, so people take it for granted that there has been something said on those lines.

  12. great footballer and one for the ladies, we really can do without him, wellbeck, frazier and all can fall in, but then if SAF wants to maintain the same tempo from last year, berbatov would be ideal but £15m is just ideal...MAN U 4EVA

  15. It's only a game as someone once said. There are other things in life and going on in the world that warrant more concern than corporate football companies lining their bank balances for the shareholders.Who pays in the end ? the fans do.Before long you'll be wanting your cash for gas, electric, petrol, congestion charges, fags and beer not handing it over to football clubs or Sky Sports.Get a grip !

  17. Everbody is missing the point the truth is REAL Spurs fans are disgusted by the way Jol was treated and we would have done as well with him rather than Ramos, Berbatov can go if he wants he will be missing out on playing in Champions league with spurs next year anyway

    From s.andrew49, on Mon 21 Jul 8:55PM
  18. The problem is the Premier League will do nothing to upset Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool. They'll do what they like and then deny it. Most Spurs fans were upset at the Tawdry and poor way Martin Jol was treated and the underhand method Spurs used to get Ramos.

Until the league makes it not worth the time to tap up players by REAL sanctions, Such as loss of a player or Loss of Champions league place or points loss, they'll achieve nothing. The whole tale just shows what we know. Ferguson is a hypocrite and Players don't know what loyalty is.

  19. Great players they both are, trouble is if they dont leave now they wont play their best for us again.

    From reverest2002, on Mon 21 Jul 8:36PM
  20. Let's face it Fergusson is a complete hyporcite, but probably so is Levy. After all it's highly likely we tapped up Ramos from Seville. So if Man Utd are punished for this (which is highly unlikely) should we recieve the same punishment? Berbatov is a sulky little child but a brilliant player, so I would only let him go for a bare minimum of £25M up front.
