Slick Chelsea dominated former boss Jose Mourinho's Internazionale at the Rose Bowl to win 2-0 and get their World Football Challenge campaign off to a winning start in Pasadena, California.

FOOTBALL 2009 Friendly match Chelsea-Inter Drogba Cambiasso Burdisso - 0

Goals from Didier Drogba in the 11th minute and a Frank Lampard penalty just after half-time gave Chelsea the victory over the Italian champions in front of 81,224 fans.

The impressive nature of the Blues' performance more than the scoreline, however, will have delighted new head coach Carlo Ancelotti, especially coming so soon into the ex-AC Milan chief's first pre-season campaign and against his former cross-city rivals.

Chelsea were dominant throughout the opening half and Drogba opened the lead in the 11th minute, receiving a short pass from Lampard with his back to goal, turning and shooting unimpeded from 20 yards, the ball bouncing over Inter Milan keeper Vid Belec's outstretched left hand and into the bottom corner of the goal.

Daniel Sturridge, who scored on his debut at Seattle, and Nicolas Anelka had replaced Drogba and Kalou and they quickly caused problems.

Deco, on for Florent Malouda, sent Sturridge clear in the box in the 48th minute and when his cross from the left was blocked by Ivan Cordoba's hand, Lampard was given the chance to add to his goal scored against the Sounders, converting the penalty, right footed into the bottom corner.

Stephen Ireland gave Manchester City a 1-0 friendly win over Kaizer Chiefs in their pre-season tour of South Africa.

Midfielder Ireland (pictured) converted Kelvin Etuhu's cross in first-half injury-time in a low-key affair by the Citizens, who were missing injured new strikers Carlos Tevez and Roque Santa Cruz.

The best chances went to City, with Ireland wasteful from close range on five and 18 minutes.

Gareth Barry could have opened the scoring on the half hour but his effort was accidentally blocked by team-mate Ireland.

Ireland atoned for his errors when a quick counter attack started by an excellent interception from Pablo Zabaleta saw Etuhu race down the right and drill a low cross to the far post which the Irishman knocked into the bottom right.

In the second half Kaizer Chiefs looked good in possession but terrible shooting - mostly from striker Motaung Junior - saw them waste a string of half-chances as well as an excellent opportunity when the 27-year-old was put clean through but shot wide.

Etuhu spurned a chance to make it 2-0 when, with three minutes remaining, he fired wide from an acute angle after rounding keeper Itumeleng Khune.

Aston Villa slumped to a shock two-goal deficit at Colchester early in the second half, but were spared pre-season blushes thanks to goals from Steve Sidwell and Adam McGurk which secured a 2-2 draw.

Tottenham won 4-0 at Peteborough with Wilson Palacios, Jermain Defoe, Darren Bent and Roman Pavlyuchenko all finding the net.

Portsmouth drew with lowly opposition as their feisty neighbours Havant and Waterlooville held them 2-2. Fulham also drew after being held in a goalless 90 minutes at Bournemouth.

Hull went a goal down at Carlisle, but hit back with goals from Daniel Cousin and Peter Halmosi to record a 2-1 win.

Wolves' new signing Andy Surman scored the only goal of the game at Walsall to give the Premier League new boys a victory while Stoke drew 1-1 with Israeli side Hapoel Tel Aviv in their friendly match in Austria.
