England coach Steve McClaren looked for the 'positives' after the 2-1 home defeat to Germany - their first at the new Wembley. The England boss saw Frank Lampard give England the lead, before goalkeeper Paul Robinson blundered to hand Kevin Kuranyi an equaliser and Christian Pander then scored a spectacular 40th-minute winner.
McClaren said: "We said before the game this result should not affect how we go into Israel and Russia (for the Euro 2008 qualifying games next month).
"Of course, it's very disappointing for the fans - but there are so many 'positives'.
"If we keep creating chances like that we've got to score some - it was a very tough game against a very, very good Germany side.
"It was important to get minutes into players like David Beckham and Michael Owen - and it was great preparation for the games coming up."
The performance of Micah Richards, who started the game at right-back and set up Lampard's goal before moving into central defence, pleased McClaren.
The coach added on Radio 5: "Micah is going to be a great asset for us - he made the first goal and was a real threat for us."
