Rubbish. Laughable. Ridiculous. Former England international Paul Parker has a few choice words about last night's friendly against the Czech Republic.
'England's performance against the Czechs was one of the worst I have seen. Things have not improved under Fabio Capello, they have stayed the same.
When you see that, and then hear the manager talk about how good things are, it's a load of rubbish.
And when you look at the team selection, it's not hard to see why. We are not going to go any further unless we change the personnel.
We have players like David James and David Beckham, who looked like they were consigned to history years ago, but are now pencilled in to start against Croatia next month.
Beckham is in there purely for his dead-ball delivery, and that was not good enough. True, he set up Wes Brown's goal, but his accuracy from free-kicks and corners was no better than 20-30 percent.
He didn't offer his usual supply line from the right. In fact, Brown crossed many more balls, and he is hardly a great attacking full-back.
I can't imagine why Ray Clemence went to the States to watch Beckham for LA Galaxy last week. The FA are paying all that money to see him playing Mickey Mouse football. It's laughable.
We already have good set-piece takers like Frank Lampard and Gareth Barry, so why not replace Beckham with somebody with more pace, dynamism and something to prove - somebody like David Bentley?
Steven Gerrard was one of the few bright sparks last night and yet he is wasted out of position on the left side of midfield.
Capello claims Gerrard was actually one of the two attacking midfielders in a 4-3-2-1 'Christmas tree' formation, and wasn't playing on the left.
Well, all I can say is they must have a different kind of Christmas tree in Italy because Gerrard spent most of the game playing right out wide.
Our players do not have the technique required to cut it at the highest international level. Crossing balls from 35-40 yards out just isn't good enough. We could pick a team of Championship players who could do that.
Coaching standards are improving and we do have some skilful young players coming through, but they will take a few years to mature.
Our present team has excellent individuals, but their club team-mates help to compensate for their technical deficiencies. Wayne Rooney is great when he plays with Carlos Tevez and Cristiano Ronaldo; Lampard with Deco and Michael Ballack; Steven Gerrard with Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano.
But when you put all the English players together their failings become all too clear.
We need to play with more passion and heart. That is English football's strength.
We weren't the best technically at the 1990 World Cup or Euro '96, but we made up for it by playing a typical English game based on pace, aggression and commitment.
The World Cup qualifier against Croatia is going to be a tough, tough game. They are technically good but more importantly they play with immense pride.
Their manager, Slaven Bilic, is getting paid 30 times less than ours, but he does it because he loves his country and is completely dedicated. Can we really say the same about Signor Capello? Of course not. It's ridiculous.
He was meant to come in and be his own man, a tough guy to sort out our overpaid stars, but at the moment he is serving up the same mess we had under Sven-Goran Eriksson and Steve McClaren.'

Reportedly, Alan has been invited to online talk show this weekend on a big site called (MILLMATCH) or something else. Some of his fans have gotten together there with waiting for him. Who knows his screen name on that site?
Alan,
Well said man. I appreciate your honesty.
Build a team around Gerrard and Bently and I think good things will happen.
Don't get me wrong, the current English squad will make it to South Africa but I doubt they can make the sermis.
"You only live twice" :)
English people, you remind me of the French in the late eighties. You are very delusional about the strength of the national team. And you are still living in the high of having invented football. let go of that already :)
Why can't you guys accept criticism? Paul Parker is really telling you the truth. I know it hurts but some one gotta say it. Here's a Eureka moment for you: "Perhaps, It's not the manager, may be English players are overrated!!"
Look my English friends, you need to go through the 12 steps program.
Step Number ONE: Admit to having a problem; in this case English players are not that good. Except for Gerrard who is exceptional, Terry is terrible, Lampard way overrated, Beckham is useless, Ferdinand good, Ashley Cole good, Rooney good but has no support.
Alright my English friends enjoy the premiership. Go Gunners.
With love from USA.
In answer to Alan r u on drugs u need to start appreciating fotball you tool
Paul Scholes is @#$% we dont want him back if he played for a different team he would never have got in the squad in the first place.
Why did we play Stevie G on the left when we had two left footed players in the team surely Barry would have been better option his delivery would have been better quality,Beckham for me is finished he was a patriotic captain but lets face it if you took 25-30 free kicks corners etc you would expect to score or assist a goal wouldnt you ? lets try somebody else and as for Defoe he is a good player but not England class he shoots straight at the keeper everytime he is a good position James is too error prone and useless on set pieces i have never seen a keeper let in so many free kicks and he never gets near a penalty frankly any centre back in front of him must need valium.England can not play like Italy we do not have technically good enough players we should play direct when attacking and defend in numbers when we dont have not got the ball.Lets groom a young keeper and more attack minded full backs and stick with a team for a dozen games injuries permitting and see where it takes us.
If you had to put your house on the Czech Rep getting beaten away from home against any national side, would you feel confident they'd loose? No, you'd be a little nervous because they can be a very difficult opposition for any national side!!! Acheiving results is the main objective and Englands wasn't a bad one! Sure they can improve in the future and no team is immune from having a few off days! Paul Parker played for Manchester United and Bolton turned them over last season [much worse than drawing to the Czech's] plus Manchester City beat them and Portsmouth [When united played really well and were on top] however, united still won the premiership and European Cup and Credit must also go to Portsmouth for getting the result over a better team and then winning the cup! England will do well under Capello who's backed by Wenger and Ferguson "The two best judges out there" Lets get behind England and any player who's chosen because thats what a true support should be doing.
Forgot to mention; Paul Parker was an intrinsic part of Bobby Robson's 1990 Wold Cup semi finalists, best England team since 1966! Keep that in mind when you slag him off. He was always sound and worked his socks off as a rule.
I'm a West Ham fan who has often watched Fulham when the Hammers play away and I would totally agree with the comment made by Hurcules Hindle (151), Ashton up front (we need a regular goal scorer- in the past we have done best with a Shearer or Lineker type), Bullard in mid field (in the past we've always relied on players like David Platt providing excellent goals against the run of play) and I would put Green in goal. I still thin however our main short comings are in mid field. I wonder if a fit Ledley King would have made a difference? Also remember the last World Cup (groan) who was our best mid feilder? Hargreaves. Keep Cole he has skill and flair and build the midfield around Gerard (drop Becks and Lamps they've had their chance, they are not likely to improve beyond their current mediocre level).
Finally I would put Trevor Brooking in charge of the England set up rather than the grass roots. He did wonders when he managed West Ham (7 out of 7?).
Paul Parker should understand that its not the manager who kicks the little white ball around the pitch. Blame the players. Not the man who stands on the touchline.
Why is eveyone getting so het up about the czech game. i've seen much worse england performanmces than that. i must go an get a tape of that game and watch it again. as far as im concerned it was no worse than usual. i would say this though-get rid of beckham please.
Paul Parker is gay and is currently dating Ashley Cole
PAUL PARKER IS A @#$%
Why are people still surprised by England's lack of International success? The furthest they've ever got in the European Championship is the Quarter finals (same as Wales), and only twice have they progressed beyond the Quarters in the World Cup (one more than Wales and both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland!).
Also, the foriegn footballers playing in England has nothing to do with England's lack of International success. When English clubs - particularly Liverpool - ruled Europe in the 70's & 80's with home grown talent, England still did not qualify for 2 World cups in 1974 & '78 (whereas Scotland did) nor the European champiuonship in '76. Check out Enland's record since 1950 when they bit the bullet and decided to join the International community and partake in the World Cup (the USA knocked them out that year!) Their record over 60 years is nowhere near say Germany, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, France, Holland or even Uruguay! They are perennial underachievers due to the technically inferior way that English and British clubs play. It's different at Club level where other factors have a bearing. Also, more recently the English clubs are even stronger due to they're massive buying power. As Bobby Robson once said, England are at best merely a top 8 side internationally.
(Mark Stanfield, Porth, Rhondda)
When are all you tossers going to stop whingeing and start taking the pressure off the England team. So what we only drew against a very good Chech team in a meaningless friendly arrange by idiots a few days after the Premiership started. Most of the players at this stage of the season are only just getting fully fit and are nowhere near up to full match pace. One of the reasons we are so @#$% is because all you lot are so jealous your players are not in the team that whoever it is in there get slagged off by every other teams supporters. This only proves that most of you are not really interested in the England team but are just trying to promote your own clubs. Most of the players who you are putting forward to replace the current batch have already had their chance to get in the team and failed dismally. Lets face it we are never going to be a force in world football all the time the set up is as it is within our game, as clubs do not really want their overpriced assets to be eroded by getting injured playing for their country. So please all stop moaning and give some support to whoever is playing so that they may be able to perform to the level we know they can play at. Lastly to all those who have been slagging off David James have you ever tried to save a ball travelling at 120 mph in a tropical rainstorm.
Boy, do i agree with everything written here by Mr Parker, i especially agree with:
Our present team has excellent individuals, but their club team-mates help to compensate for their technical deficiencies. Wayne Rooney is great when he plays with Carlos Tevez and Cristiano Ronaldo; Lampard with Deco and Michael Ballack; Steven Gerrard with Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano.
I have been saying this for years, also, get rid of Coppello (cant spell it, but who cares), we need a British manager, don't care if he is Scottish, Irish, even Welsh, but get someone who knows our games, how rubbish we are at it, and uses our small amounts of strength to our advantage, we are not Italian (technical) and not Croatia (passion), they are over paid lovies and need to be kicked around, embarassed and dropped, which some one like Martin O'Neill would do, get him in soon, before bowls becomes our national game!!!
We all believe that the premier league is the best in the world, well it must be because the papers and clubs tell us it is. But if it is is because of English talent? How many european clubs chase english players? Who is likely to bid for James, Terry, Ferdinand, Lampard Rooney. Not to many seem interested though it is sure that europe might bid for Torres, Ronaldo and Fabergas. Our players are overated and do not have the natural skills of europe and South America. The Czechs looked far better on the ball than us, as did Croatia when they wiped the floor with us. We must stop picking NAMES and go for players who can play together, who have skill and vision but Who are they? I do not see many so lets try to be like other sports and get Torres, Ronaldo and Fabergas to be naturalised English. No I suppose we will continue to play the tripe and our clubs will continue to pay Lampard, Terry etc £150K per week, dear oh dear what a joke.
England struggle against the Czechs and we are surprised? Same players, no tactical savvy, passionless midfield and a pointless friendly. You knw what guys, it doesn't matter really because until English football undergoes a massive and radical change in its ethos and ethics we can forget automatic qualification for any tournament just scraping through to a quarter final on luck and negative football will have to do, I'm not depressed or surprised - the current England stars are average to really C$$p.
