Boro double up
Middlesbrough continued their impressive start to the Coca-Cola Championship season with a 2-0 victory over Doncaster and a fourth consecutive clean sheet at the Riverside.
Tuncay and Leroy Lita were on target for the Teessiders, who are enjoying their best start to a campaign for 15 years.
Gareth Southgate made just one change to the side that won 2-0 at Scunthorpe in midweek with Gary O'Neil dropping out due to injury and being replaced by Julio Arca.
Lita and Marvin Emnes kept their places up front while Jeremie Aliadiere added to Southgate's attacking options by returning to the bench following a hamstring injury.
Rovers midfielder Martin Woods failed to recover from a calf injury picked up against Coventry on Tuesday night, meaning Mark Wilson came into the team to face his former employers.
The home side started by far the brighter and Adam Johnson nearly had his fourth goal in three matches but Neil Sullivan in the Doncaster net did well to save his long-range effort.
There was then a collision between Emnes and Sullivan which earned the goalkeeper a booking and saw the striker carried off on a stretcher with a head injury and replaced by Tuncay.
But with his first touch, the Turk fired Boro into the lead as he latched onto a header from Lita and slotted home.
Tuncay then came close to returning the favour to his strike partner as he exchanged passes with Johnson and tried to find Lita but his pass went behind the former Reading man, who would have had a tap-in from six yards.
Doncaster were struggling to get a grip on the game and it was 29 minutes before they had their first genuine effort as Wilson unleashed a 25-yard effort which went wide.
In the 38th minute Tuncay thought he had a second when he finished off a flowing move involving Johnson, Mark Yeates and Jonathan Grounds but the linesman's flag was raised.
The second half began at a sedate pace but Arca had clearly built up a head of steam as he clattered into Dean Shiels to earn himself a yellow card.
Brian Stock then brought a save from Danny Coyne as he hammered an effort from 30 yards but the goalkeeper was well behind it.
And moments later it was 2-0 as Tony McMahon supplied a ball which Lita controlled beautifully before hammering home high into the net.
The striker got a booking for taking his shirt off during a wild celebration but he did not seem too concerned after scoring his first goal since moving to the Riverside.
Doncaster boss Sean O'Driscoll brought on John Spicer and Quinton Fortune as he looked for some spark in midfield but it proved ineffectual as Boro easily saw out the closing stages.

we need to get rid of tht waste of space alves, and not sell tuncay, he is proving to he excellent for us this season. he is one of those players that shows the enthusiasm when playin and is always behind or on the ball. if we keep him and adam johnson we will fine. also i havent given up on jeremi aliadiere yet i think he has a lot more to show and with the chances i think he can be a great asset to the team. our new players have been good mark yeates, danny coyna and leroy lita have all been brill although yeates hasnt yet scored his 1st goal for the club i think with time he will along with leroy lita who definetly will be scoring more goals soon! so with all those players i think we definetly have the petential to win games score goals and obviousley stay at the top of the table. what a proud moment it is for us to see MIDDLESBROUGH at the top of the 'championship' table LMAO!
who in there right mind is going to pay the money that we paid for alves he is costing us a fortune in wages and has not even had a kick of a ball this season he needs to put his heart on the pitch score goals and he might get his move if he can score the goals good riddance to a player who doesnt care even when he pulls on a boro shirt the fans want to see someone give 110 % in a boro shirt not zero effort. tuncay please stay you are our best player with you in our side we can go straight back up where we belong just one last thing to gareth please dont play people out of position we have young lads who will give 110% if they were given the chance to pull on a boro shirt. come on gibbo you are the saviour of this club through good and bad times you have always been there and if the team shows as much pride in there performance as you do for this club we will go straight back up.
A great start to the season lets hope we can keep Tuncay and then we will have a forward line to worry anyone. Please Steve Gibson don't sell Tuncay or Wheater or Huth then we will go up. Sell Alves, Riggott and one of the fullbacks if we have too.
I think we will worry anyone in this league and that Newcastle will fall away especially if Taylor leaves.
UP THE BORO.
