Eintracht Frankfurt passed up the opportunity to move to the top of the Bundesliga on Friday night when they were held to a 0-0 draw at Bochum.
The draw sees Eintracht move level on points with leaders Bayern Munich, while Bochum climb to eighth in the standings after six games.
The hosts had the better of the opening exchanges, forcing a number of corners but were unable to capitalise.
Phillip Bonig's cross midway through the first half was met by Tommy Bechmann, but he put his effort wide from eight yards.
Alexander Meier looked to break the deadlock at the other end shortly afterwards, but his header from the left-hand side of the six-yard box was blocked by home goalkeeper Jan Lastuvka.
Bonig then tried his luck from distance, but saw his fierce shot deflected out for a corner.
Eintracht keeper Markus Proll gathered the corner at the second attempt, but then required stitches to a wound after a nasty collision.
Stanislav Sestak came within inches of connecting with a Bonig cross in the last meaningful action of the first period, but it was not to be and the teams went in at the break at 0-0.
Proll had to be alert five minute after the restart to keep out a low 12-yard shot from Bochum's Danny Fuchs.
Proll's opposite number Lastuvka then pulled off a great save to keep his side on level terms, tipping a 20-yard blast over the bar after Ioannis Amanatidis had produced a brilliant first touch and turn before getting his shot away.
The Greek frontman had another go moments later, but could only look on as his curled effort from 20 yards missed its target by a matter of inches.
The visitors continued to push in the latter stages, with Albert Streit's shot from 25 yards deflecting narrowly wide.
But there was no way past Lastuvka and Eintracht had to settle for a point.
