World Cup - Day 16: Preview and teams

Eurosport - Sat, 22 Sep 14:59:00 2007

England will hope last week's mauling by South Africa was a one-off when they seek World Cup redemption against Samoa in Nantes on Saturday.

Jonny Wilkinson - England - 0

The world champions, humiliated 36-0 by the Springboks, need wins over Samoa and Tonga in their remaining Pool A games to guarantee progress to the quarter-finals, though they still could advance with one win over Tonga.

Fly-half Jonny Wilkinson will make his first appearance in this tournament after he missed the first two matches with an ankle injury.

The Springboks take to the field two hours earlier in Lens against a Tonga side with their tails up after a victory over Pacific rivals Samoa in their last match.

Coach Jake White has made multiple changes to the side that beat England, effectively naming a reserve XV although he has included some of their leading players as replacements.

Replacement fullback Percy Montgomery will become the most-capped South African test player if he comes on for his 90th appearance.

Tonga, who have won two matches at a World Cup for the first time, have only met South Africa once before when the Springboks won 74-10 in Cape Town in 1997.

Argentina should make it three wins from three against Namibia in Marseille and stay on course to finish top of Pool D.

The Pumas, yet to concede a try after wins over France and Georgia, welcome back captain Agustin Pichot, who returns to the starting line-up after missing the Georgia match.
