A weekly look at the domestic fortunes of the British clubs' Champions League adversaries.
GROUP E:
Aalborg v Manchester United
The Superligaen champions suffered a major setback ahead of their clash with United, falling to a demoralising 3-0 defeat to FC Copenhagen in the Danish capital. Michael Beauchamp, who had his red carded from the Celtic game rescinded last week, put past his own keeper shortly after half-time as Aalborg slipped to third bottom after eight games.
Villarreal v Celtic
Villarreal (pictured) came from behind to beat promoted Numancia 2-1 away with well-worked second-half goals from Santi Cazorla and Joseba Llorente. Numancia, who beat Barcelona 1-0 and lost 4-3 to Real Madrid at the Bernabeu last weekend, made life tough for the visitors though Gorka Brit's header just before the break was scored from an offside position at a free kick.
GROUP G:
Arsenal v Porto
Promoted Rio Ave held Porto to their second league draw of the season.
Porto missed a great chance when defender Bruno Alves hit the post from a free-kick after 80 minutes. The game finished goalless.
GROUP A:
CFR Cluj v Chelsea
CFR Cluj followed up their shock Champions League defeat of Roma with an easy 3-0 home win over Farul Constanta.
The Romanian champions went 2-0 up before half-time thanks to goals from Yssouf Kone and Sebastien Dubarbier. Kone grabbed his second seven minutes before full-time.
GROUP D:
Liverpool v PSV Eindhoven
PSV dropped their first points of the Eredivisie season with a 1-0 reverse at AZ Alkmaar. Huub Steven's side fell to a late goal by midfielder Maarten Martens as they slipped to fourth in the table after three games.
