Championship - Cole: Play me or I'll leave

Eurosport - Mon, 22 Sep 11:53:00 2008

Nottingham Forest striker Andy Cole has issued an ultimatum to manager Colin Calderwood - put me in the starting line-up or I'll quit.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 Championship Nottingham Forest Andy Cole - 0

The veteran goal getter has started just once since signing a one-year deal with his hometown club during the summer.

The 36-year-old has made five substitute appearances, with the latest nothing more than a late run-out against Charlton on Saturday.

And Cole has become so frustrated at his peripheral role at the City Ground that he is considering quitting the Championship side.

"I did not come here to sit and watch," Cole told the Nottingham Evening Post.

"If I am not going to [start] there is no point me being here. I've never picked up money for nothing in my career, and I'm not going to start now."

Forest have not enjoyed the best of starts to their first season back in the Championship and are second bottom of the table after seven games.

  1. For god's sake CC play him! we surely can't get in to a worse position (except bottom). Cole and Earnshaw up front, Tyson on the wing with the freedom to run inside. There is no reason why any club in the Champioship should pay £25,000 a week for someone that doesn't play.
CC i give you till 10 championship games played of the season then i want you out. i get sick of listening to the post match reports with your poor energy and charisma, i truely hope that isn't how you perform your motivational speeches to the team, you remind me of Megson :-(
I Love the REDS and read all the press, match stats, highlights and of course go to the games but this is just heartbreaking. (sorry for moaning)
COME ON YOU REDS!!!!!!! (currently reading 'The Damned Utd', Awesome!)

  3. If your not fit enough, get fit and wait your turn like everybody else. Your a has been and have no right to start dictating when you should be played.
The start to this new campaign has already proved....... lets say not easy,so i think a bit of unity wouldn`t go a miss. Get a grip and lets play!!!!

  4. Andy Cole....... Listen old man when you are fit im sure ull play but lets face it you are not better than Earnshaw or Tyson. They have pace and the finishing ability that you once had so please help bring these younger players on and help your so called home town club

  7. what makes laugh if that the man has not been fit enought to play for more than 20 minutes a game thus far this season, what does he want, us to play an unfit player just cos of who he is?? he should bide his time, prove his fitness and impress in training, then he will get a crack like evryone else......also to have a public outburst like this and undermine the manager.....if he doesnt like it, he should do one to be frank.

  10. I can understand why he is frustrated. He is coming to the end of his career and does not want to sit and watch but wants to contribute. His statement indicates that he does not want to be paid to sit and watch. It is not like he is a young player trying to break through. He is a experienced, proven, and time limited player. He knows that retiring is the best option for him if he cannot contribute.
