Gillingham manager Mark Stimson defended striker Mark McCammon following his sending off in the 2-1 defeat at Aldershot on Saturday.

FOOTBALL Mark Stimson - 0

The 30-year-old was dismissed for violent conduct after an elbow on Shots keeper Nikki Bull in the 13th minute.

While Stimson admits he is yet to see a video of the incident, he felt McCammon was harshly treated the referee.

He said: "I haven't seen the video of it yet so I have to be careful, but my instinct was it was dubious.

"I've known Mark McCammon for long enough to know he's not the kind to lead with his elbow - the straight red was really harsh.

"But I can't fault my players for effort - we were down to 10 men for so long but the commitment was spot on."

  1. He wasnt' dismissed for violent conduct, in fact it was Serious Foul Play - and he's bang to rights, sadly.

That said, he's been pretty duff since his arrival and could use the three-match ban to get his fitness up to the required levels.

Hopefully he'll come back fitter, more focused and more circumspect when challenging goalkeepers...
