Everton fought back from 2-0 down to earn a valuable point at the KC Stadium against Hull City as the teams played out an exciting 2-2 draw.
A Michael Turner header and a comedic own-goal from Phil Neville had put Hull on course for another fairytale victory but a contentious Tim Cahill goal in the 73rd minute put Everton back into it before Leon Osman scored from close range to level matters 12 minutes from time.
The point keeps Hull in seventh position, while Everton move just behind them in ninth.
Hull went into the break 1-0 up thanks to a simple goal from Turner, as he rose above Marouane Fellaini at the back post to head Dean Marney's corner into the roof of the net despite the best efforts of the Everton players on the line to keep it out.
Everton had been given a warning sign as early as the second minute when Bernard Mendy won a header in the box but he could only put it straight at Tim Howard.
After that, and until the goal, Everton looked relatively in control with Osman pulling their best chance wide after a clever cut back from Neville.
After the goal, Yakubu fired a good half-volley on target but a little too straight at Myhill, but then the chances started to dry up for the Toffees, and at the other end they looked vulnerable to balls played into the box.
Everton brought on Louis Saha and Joleon Lescott at half-time to try and change things but then in the early stages of the second-half they found themselves two down.
David Moyes will be tearing his hair out at the way his side defended set plays all day, with Howard, Neville, and Osman all going for the same ball from another corner with Neville and Osman managing to bundle the ball into the net between the two of them despite no Hull player challenging them.
Hull began to defend deeply after that goal but looked solid enough for the most part; although the lively Saha, making his Everton debut, drew a good save from Myhill in the 63rd minute.
The game changed though when Everton got on the scoresheet in the 73rd minute when Cahill fired a shot from near the penalty spot that Myhill tipped onto the underside of the bar.
The ball crashed back down, just over the line in the eyes of the linesman, but even after numerous video replays, it was hard to tell whether the entire ball had crossed over or if part of it just hit the edge of the line.
After that, Everton really began to press and within five minutes they were level as Saha linked up superbly with Yakubu with the Nigerian then playing across a lovely ball that Osman side-footed home from close range.
At that stage it looked like Everton might press on and find a winner, but Hull managed to settle back into things, and hang for a point that will satisfy, rather than please, both managers given the circumstances.

Think it's time to put to rest David Moyes non signing of a new contract.Give him the elbow. There are plenty of Managers out there who can do,for probably less than the £17m offered, a better job than he can.

I was in line with Everton's first "goal" and it wasn't over the line at all. Linesman just wanted the Toffees back in the game I suppose or Moyes would have said nasty things to him and made him cry. Cheated out of 2 points but to be fair Everton were the better side in the second half. Arteta was nowhere to be seen throughout the game.Saha will be an asset for 1.5 games before he gets injured. Lescott is a liability as is the Everton defence. Hull had a simple first goal.
Keep on cheetin you scouser scally boys!!!!!!!!!!
as a red can`t wait to thump everton next week!
if phil never got own goal everton would have won 2-1
well done you lads; wish i could be there to see every game; i am sure the tigers will overcome all the doubting thomases or give their all trying; i am also sure that if the pundits were not so precious about themselves and instead supported the spirit of the game, they could create a better atmosphere for the promoted clubs each season; we all know its hard, but a bit more of the positive stuff for the newcomers would not hurt them to give and could help
com on u ull
Our defensive frailties are obvious and it is the set pieces that appear to cause Everton most problems. I am sure these can be ironed out and if we can regain our composure in defence results will be much more positive. Own goal again! Saha could well prove to an excellent acquisition and we mhope that he can keep fit.
Our(Everton's) defending has been a disgrace so far this season. Dropping Lescott was a bold move from Moyes and it still did nothing. Delighted Saha got on the pitch and made a huge impact. Hope there is lots more to come from him this season. Things, as they say, can only get better.
I think today we played piss poor yet again and a draw against Hull City is just not good enough although we fought hard to get back we should be winning games like these.
they are very good at playing draws.
cmon hull!!!
cmon hull!!!
Go on Hull keep it up lads, Everton dont deserve the point they got. anyway Hull has finaly got something to shout about.
