Championship - Harewood set for Toon move

Eurosport - Tue, 22 Sep 13:52:00 2009

Marlon Harewood's agent has confirmed the Aston Villa striker is poised to join Newcastle on loan.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 Premier League West Ham Marlon Harewood - 0

The Magpies have lined up a move for Harewood as they seek to bolster their attacking options after losing Shola Ameobi to long-term injury.

Newcastle tried to sign Harewood during the transfer window only for a foot injury to delay any move.

But the striker is now back to fitness and is keen to be playing regular first-team football after finding himself well down the pecking order at Villa Park.

His representative Phil Sproson confirmed his client is keen on a move to Newcastle and is hopeful of finalising a deal later this week.

"I believe we are close to agreeing everything and hopefully the move can be finalised later this week," Sproson told Sky Sports.

"Talks are ongoing between both clubs and I think they are keen to get it resolved.

"Marlon is back to fitness now and he is ready and raring to go.

"Marlon is very keen on going to Newcastle and playing regular first-team football again."

  2. A few years ago A V would have been happy with Harewood. Then Learner turns up and suddenly the Villa fans think they're a club to be taken seriously. Ashley. Are we doing this deal or what?

  3. Let's not forget that the Knives were out for Shola when w we were in the Prem.. yet in the Champ.. he has dicovered himself, his confidence and his scoring abilities. It could be a similar situation for Harewood, at the end of the day what other options do we have? We need a forward and he is keen. It's a no brainer as far as I'm concerned. Well dome PWilson by the way. Good on yer.

  4. Think he could prove to be an interesting signing if he's fit (and interested himself) he can be a strong, bustly forward that'll be a handfull for defences, not a bad stop gap

  5. The last game Harewood started (i think) was virtually a year ago against QPR in the Carling Cup. That was the straw that broke the camels back as far as O'Neill was concerned.... some shocking finishing, looked totally disinterested and if there is no work rate then there is very little else he offers (technically a very poor footballer at Premiership level).

Along with Knight & Reo-Coker he was an interim buy to add more pace and athleticism to a squad put together by David O'Dreary that was lacking in this area.
A step down might help him re-discover some form, however at best it will help him get a move in January as he has no future at Villa. He also didn't do a great deal at Wolves at the end of last season when on loan.

  6. surely harewood cant be as bad as what the villa supporters are saying.the toon are lacking badly up front.they dont even start with ranger and what a differance he makes when he comes on.so if ranger cant get a start with a lack of strickers the future doesnt look good for him.just a matter of time before he leaves.you better be up to it harewood.

now marlon stinkin harewood. oh dear oh dear

P.s did i mention? i don't rate harewood too highly?
this is the guy who on his villa debut squared up for a fight with agbonlahor (his team mate) for not passing the ball... and since then he's gone downhill !!

I agree totally...PS. IS THAT YOU MAVRICK??

  9. Harwood's best game in a claret+blue shirt. He was awesome in a 4-0 drubbing West Ham gave Villa at Upton Park one evening, and in a well worn tradition Villa bought him on the strength of that. Equally well worn is the traditional disappointment of those signed on that basis.

Clumsy rather than clinical - there will be loose-ball opportunities in the penalty box as a result of Marlon's work but you will need a poacher like Owen to put them away.

  12. Do they mind taking Heskey too?? it could be a" TWO donkey " for the price of one, cant seem to remember last time heskey scored for Villa or England

From Yuan, on Tue 22 Sep 1:44AM
  13. i agree with stench, harewood the donkey has to be the worst striker i have seen in a villa shirt in 44years, they guy cant run, thats why his nickname is the donkey cos for sure he is no stallion, the only true place for this donkey is the knackers yard,

he should the other worst striker in a villa shirt with him, i have said since we signed him that heskey is also another donkey, he has only 10% of what carew has and 5% of that is the villa shirt,

heskey to go and quick so we can get a proper striker on the bench.

  14. Comment 6: darren.gilbert5... It pains me to say it, but Posh are welcome to win this one. The League Cup should be as high a priority to Newcastle United, as a decent suit is to Barry Fry. We just don't need this tournament given the current circumstances. Promotion should be our only concern. Do you think that Peterborough might be pushing for promotion at the end of the season?

PWilson: Comment 10. Well said fella. Bobby Robson was a class act.

  18. I would be happy enough having him in the squad.
So what if he hasnt "set the world alight", after all, neither had Shola and he has been a right donkey for the last few years until we dropped down to this level. I reckon Harewood would do alright for us.

Quite a few of yous are already familiar with my Magical Mackem roots, and those of yous who very regularly visit our premier pages, know that up until this point I have never posted on the other-sides pages. But because of this momentous day "The celebration of the life of Sir Robert William Robson" I feel the time is right to break this self imposed embargo in honor of the great man-just like when the lights went out for Jolson on Broadway, I would like to proclaim and say-

"Sir Robert William Robson-Pride of the North East of England and an entire Nation" RIP 2009
