Maurice Cohen has left his position as president of Ligue 1 club Nice following the weekend loss to Monaco.

Cohen came in for serious criticism and his standing was not been helped by Nice's poor start to the season.

Nice were beaten by Riviera rivals Monaco at the weekend and Cohen opted to step down following the defeat.

At a press conference, Cohen explained that he no longer wanted to continue working with the majority shareholders who have laid blame at my door. I am going to quit my post."

It would appear Cohen feels other parties need to take their share of the blame.

He added: Exactly what went on in the transfer market needs to be looked at. Why have we bought several defenders who are all substitutes? Why have we insisted on keeping Loic Remy, even when we were offered an interesting sum for him? Was the arrival of Anthony Mounier really a priority when we already have six forwards? Who led us there?

Gilbert Stellardo will assume Cohen's duties on September 29.
