Premier League - Garrido accuses hostile United

Eurosport - Tue, 22 Sep 08:34:00 2009

Manchester City defender Javier Garrido has accused derby rivals Manchester United of creating a hostile climate between the two clubs.

FOOTBALL 2007-2008 Premier League Javier Garrido, Manchester City - 0

Substitute Garrido was struck on the head by a coin as he headed down the tunnel at half-time of the derby at Old Trafford which United won 4-3.

"I've been in England for two seasons and this was the match with more fanaticism than any other," Garrido told the Daily Mail.

"I know other derbies but this atmosphere was incredible with insults flying as soon as we arrived at the stadium."

Garrido believes he was not the target in the coin-throwing incident.

He added: "I was hit by a coin on the head when I was just walking calmly down the tunnel but I believe the target was Carlos Tevez, but I was standing next to him at the time.

"This was seen by Manchester United staff but nobody offered any kind of reason.

"Manchester City have not provoked any of this controversy and United have created a climate of hostility against us."

  2. 1. We won the laegue las year dosent matter who we beat and who we didnt.
    2. We have made abetter start to this year without tevez and ronaldo.
    3. 30 seconds per sbstitute and per goal is in fifas rulebook. Hence 4 goals 2 minutes. $ subs another 2 mins equals 4 minutes.
    4. Goal and sub in extra time. Another minute but ref decide bellamy over celebrated.
End of we were better than you and deserved the 3 points.

  3. The FACT of the matter is that Utd recorded more than twice the shots city did (21 to 10) 11 corners to city's 1, and 60% possession throughout the 90 minutes and completely outplayed City in the second half, sure we didnt capitalise on the countless chances we had in the second half but it goes some way to showing how we controlled the play throughout. R.E #85 Kevin Roberts, ok so even if only 3 goals had been scored and 2 subs before the 90 minutes was up that adds up to 4 minutes. As any delays after 90 minutes have to be taken in to account with added time the following is true. Bellamy's goal just before 90 mins resulted in play not restarting until 91+, add on the 4 mins added time= 95 mins, then carrick sub adds another 30secs = 95 mins 30 seconds. Owens goal was 95 mins and 28 seconds. Arguement over!!!!!

  4. wow post 77 do you even understand that what football is all about
You are talking of us been given more time and the penalty in the arsenal game
it all boils down to the fact that we played strong against arsenal and totally out play City in the second half
the only solid thing city had was the bulldog Tevez and the ballamy Wonder goal apart from that we were all over city
only 9% of playing happen in the United half in the whole second half and does that not tell you who the stronger team is.... Yeah CR is gone and Bulldog is wearing blue but we will still reign over the league like we always do so
get your game head on and think logically 3yr in a roll well when was the last time anyone else did that in the premiership. Stop hating and pay respect to one of the greatest football clubs in the world at the moment ...
Oh and stop hiding and get urself a name so we can call you out....

  5. Re. 72 Christopher - yeah, I WAS at OT for the game sitting with my Utd friends in the Exec area and
    (a) I had a clear view of Fergie's reaction to the board going up saying '4mins'
    (b) the score at that time was 3-2, therefore 3 (THREE) goals in the 2nd half, not 4 as you state...Bellamy's equaliser came after the board was raised;so by my reckoning on your spurious claim for 'goals allowances' (der...since when?!) there should have been 3mins, plus 3 substitutions at 30secs each, making a total of 4.5mins! so they completely got it wrong, plus by your reckoning the board should've read 6mins taking in the '4th' goal in the 2nd half !
    (c) there were no injuries at all of any consequence in the 2nd half to make up the time however you decide upon it
    (d) all of my Utd chums were glad to get to half-time at 1-1, and to a man they conceded that 3-1 to City would've been a fair scoreline had Tevez/Lescott scored because, as one of them said to me, 'You're passing us off the pitch'
    (e) Utd raised their game in the 2nd half and could've scored a couple more; but like City in the 1st, they DIDN'T

    Get your facts right...

  6. number 79 "rooney dived" at arsenal what i a load of rubbish if almunia well ok any keeper for that matter comes out and dives at a players feet he should be very careful to get the ball look at the incident at arsenal he DID NOT ill repeat NOT touch the ball he DID ill repeat did touch rooney its stonewall penalty when that happens im a keeper meself i know that keepers are allowed to use their hands but if those hands are used to impeed a player in the box in any way its a pen no arguments even if it was not intentional or malicious thats the rules with keepers on saying that i dont think almunia was malicious just had bad timing that is why the ref did not send him off if the ref thinks their was intent to get the player ie not accidental then the keeper will hit the showers early either way its going to be a pen! do i think rooney made more of it than he should have yes and no yes he made a bit much of it but if it is a definate pen like it was in that case rooney cud have done 3 back flips and landed in the crowd holding his face it would stil have been a penalty

  9. Post 79, I'm getting fed up with people on here making wild accussations based once again on no fact, Every commentator and analist agrees that the penalty decision against Arsenal in the Man Utd game was correct. Also go ahead and make my day and actually give evidence for the FA bias towards Man Utd, or are you as I suspect just one more man regurgitating the miss-informed views of others?

Also for all you jealous types who have nothing better than to claim that Utd are somehow in bed with the FA and get far more extra time than other teams, the reality is as was discovered by Sky Sports that Man Utd are actually towards the bottom of the league with regards to extra time being added on in games!!! The facts speak for themselves people, stop jumping on the anti Man Utd band wagon and start looking at the facts!!! Cue randon Anti Man Utd comments based on no evidence whatsoever and a little 3rd hand rambling from a guy known only as "Dave" down the local.......

  13. Ha! Garrido can't understand the heated atmosphere at a derby game!!!! What sort of players are the arabs millions buying ? Sounds like the responce of a mercenary who wants a nice easy time collecting his huge salary to me, Also, I was begining to think that Man City were serious title contenders, but with this spitefull, petty reaction after being beaten by the (far) better team says they are still a small chavvy bunch of pretenders.

the facts are the home team always gets the benefit of the watch and that is a fact. This has happened numerous time to Liverpool and Chelsea aswell. The problem is everyone jumps on the bandwagon when its United. But if uz really care that much take it to Fifa its there refs adding the time on not United. Bottom line is you play to th whistle i learned that at 8 years old. Citys own fault for thinking the game was over. Latly if u notice the guardians report inly included United home games. What happened to the other 40 games in those 3 seasons..

Slipping away. Havent we just won the title 3 years on the trot again. Havent we just beat City already beat Arsenal. One bad performance against Burnley and everybody thinks we are losing it. People like you need there had examined United are still the most dominant team in England and until the title is away for more than 5 seasons that will continue to be the case. You say take off the red misted glasses I say go and buy a pair. We are 2nd at the moment and everyone knows we have always been slow out the blocks. City spent how much money 120 million and we could of and probably should have put 6 past them.
I wonder what team you support?
Its got to be either City or Livinthepast FC.

    From jeemy.wilson, on Tue 22 Sep 1:05PM
  17. #71, what do you mean there was no justification for the 4 minutes of extra time? It is standard procedure to add 1 min per goal of which there were 4 in the second half. As for extra time being added on to these 4 minutes in the second half, the extra time as indicated by the fourth official is a MINIMUM amount of added time to be played and any delays to play after normal time has come to an end must also be taken in to account! It has also been proven that Owens goal came only 1 second after added time and delays so please get your facts straight everybody. The important thing to remember is that City were lucky to even be 3-3 come 90 mins and Man Utd had peppered the goal for the best part of 30 mins with the ball barely ever making it in to Utds half. Remember also that City had the extra time too, just because Man Utd had the skill to capitalise only goes to show how vast the gap between the two teams still is!!!

  18. Comment hidden due to its low rating. Show

City should've defended better at 3-3, for sure, but the facts are (1) when the score was 3-2 and the 4mins extra time was posted, Ferguson went ballistic with the official, querying the length of time arrived at (2) apart from the 2 Utd & 1 City substitutions in the 2nd half, there was no justification for these 4mins extra time (3)read today's Guardian for an analysis of how Utd benefit regularly from additional time set by the officials.

Had City scored twice to win 4-3 I would still be saying the same thing about this and other recent controversies - we have the technology to prevent problems arising with goalline incidents/timekeeping and so on. We should use it like other sports do. When multimillions are at stake with such things, it beggars belief that FIFA/UEFA/Premiership administrators drag their feet on the introduction of such technology.

As for the game, it WASN'T the best ever 'derby', no way with the two awful defences on display (if City got '3 lucky goals', Fergie, then thank your lucky stars that Richards gave you nos. 1&4, whilst Lescott/Toure were at fault for nos. 2&3 without any question)

Finally, the game was a statement of intent from City, we matched Utd toe-to-toe on their own patch AND as team that's only been together for 4/5 games AND without 4 players who'd walk into any Premiership side. Given that we played Utd's best XI, it will be interesting to watch what happens when City's squad is fully fit and the team beds in. And not only that, come the next transfer window, who's going to have the money to spend on players to kick on, rather than servicing gross corporate debts...? Utd? Liverpool? Arsenal? Chelsea (double-whammy with the ban)? I think not...
