Premier League - Woodgate injury setback

Eurosport - Tue, 22 Sep 20:00:00 2009

Jonathan Woodgate is "nowhere near" making a return to action, according to Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp.

The defender has been sidelined with a groin injury which has prevented him from featuring for Spurs this season.

It was hoped the stopper was on the road to recovery but he has suffered another setback and will remain out for the foreseeable future.

Redknapp told the Daily Mirror: "Woodgate's nowhere near playing again.

"He went to see a specialist again and he just can't train. We haven't got to the bottom of the injury at all, what's causing him discomfort."

The news comes as a further blow to Spurs, who are in the midst of a defensive crisis.

Fellow centre-half Michael Dawson is another long-term casualty with an Achilles injury while both Ledley King and Sebastien Bassong picked up knocks during the weekend's defeat to Chelsea.

Club captain King hobbled off the pitch clutching his hamstring while Bassong was stretchered off following a blow to his head.

  9. is he the new darren anderton - sick note! these mamby pamby footballers should really put their injuries into perspective. Fair enough serious injuries, but knocks, WTF! Cant train because they have a bruise or a scratch. They should take a leaf out of that ice mans book - running a marathon half naked in sub zero temps with a sprained ankle. Lightweights.
