Wells sets up Pinches clash in Grand Prix

Daniel Wells was among those to advance through to the second round of Grand Prix qualifying in Prestatyn with the Welshman right at home in beating Sam Baird 5-2.

The 21-year-old Neath-born player outclassed Baird, and closed out the match with a commanding break of 102 and in the process set up a second-round clash with Norwich's Barry Pinches.

Joe Jogia beat Xiao Guodong 5-1 with an imperious break of 137 to finish with a real flourish, while Michael White overcame Noppadol Sangnil by the same margin.

Matthew Selt endured an arduous battle with Jordan Brown with the Romford player eventually defeating his obdurate opponent 5-4, while Matthew Couch beat Jimmy Robertson 5-1.

James Wattana was a first-round casualty at the hands of Stephen Rowlings, going down 5-1, but Tony Drago hit form to beat Lee Page by the same score.

David Gray completed a 5-0 whitewash in his match against Lee Spink, as did Patrick Wallace against Mei Xiwen.

The other players to advance through to the second round of qualifying were: Andrew Norman, Li Hang, Bjorn Haneveer, Thepchaiya Un Nooh, Mark Boyle, Simon Bedford and Anda Zhang.
