Thomas off in Emirates defeat

Tue, 22 Sep 22:30:24 2009

Mexican teenager Carlos Vela came off the bench to inspire Arsene Wenger's young Gunners to a 2-0 Carling Cup victory over 10-man West Brom at the Emirates Stadium.

The 19-year-old marked his return from an ankle injury when his shot set up Sanchez Watt for the opener in the 68th minute and then added a tap-in after Mark Randall's clever chip came back off the crossbar.

After a positive start the Coca-Cola Championship leaders were up against it after former Gunner Jerome Thomas - who twice won the FA Youth Cup while at Arsenal - was sent off after 37 minutes for a needless slap on Jack Wilshere.

Wenger had once again given youth a chance, his team with an average age of just over 20, while also bringing in experienced defender Philippe Senderos - starting for the first time since May 2008 after a loan spell at AC Milan - and veteran Mikael Silvestre captained the side.

  2. Sue I don't mind getting beaten (As an albion fan I'm used to it!)

I just hate it when a young player feels the need to get a player sent off, I'm not ignoring what Thomas has done and he deserved to walk for the b.itch slap he gave wilshire but if Wilshire hadn't: -

A: Refused to accept his initial apology
B: Given him a mouthful when he offered his apology

    Then he wouldn't have reacted

To then roll around like he's been shot has just proven to me and everyone else who has seen the incident that the boy has no class.

Remember when you claimed Arsenal were picked on by the big bullies (Bolton etc) Well the reason is your a bunch of moaning girls.

No wonder you haven't won anything for 3 years and are not going to win anything for the next 10, theres no power, strength or passion, just fancy footballers who are scared to get dirty.

  3. Seems to me as though there was a lot of jealousy on the field of play last night.
What is it with these ex fellow professionals that feel the need to kick us all over the pitch.
Well done Jack and to the scorers Sanchez and Carlos you were awesome.

  4. Just walked in after 3 hour coach journey back and have to say that the boys did us proud.

Thought the defence was magnificant, even though Barnett has again had a howler for their second goal his overall play was brilliant, Jara looks quality and he is quick as lightning.

Didn't properly see what Thomas did but according to repots he has had a go after their little @#$% of a player is rolling round feigning injury, they were disgusting, diving all over the place, ARSEnal fans will be happy to know that the diving of previous years is well and truely alive in your current crop of youngsters.

Cox and Moore worked hard without really causing many problems and Koren has had two quality chances, Wood also missed a sitter.

For me our man of the match had to be Texeira, it's a testament to the player that he had come into this match after little first team action and performed like he did, simply brilliant.

Well Done RDM for the team spirit, Well Done WBA for the effort, and the support was amazing.

HEAR CAUS ITS ALBION, YOUR ONLY HEAR CAUS ITS ALBION.....
