Serie A - Siena hit back to earn point at Roma
Siena scored their first goal in Serie A this term to claim a deserved point from a 1-1 draw with a lacklustre Roma side at the Stadio Olimpico.
Siena always carried a threat in the second period as Roma gradually sat deeper and deeper.
They were made to pay with just two minutes left on the clock as substitute Roberto Vitiello converted after Franco Brienza's shot had come back off a post.
Roma are in 14th spot in the table with two points from three games with Siena in 15th spot. Neither side has won a match this season with Roma boss Luis Enrique cutting a frustrated figure as Siena piled on the pressure in the second half.
Roma had won their last four home meetings against Siena in Serie A, conceding just one goal.
The match established a pattern of Roma keeping the ball for lengthy periods before Siena would break at speed to trouble the Roma defence.
The directness of Siena's attacking play suggested that they were worthy of at least a draw.
Brienza saw the Roma keeper Bogdan Lobont claw out his powerful header on 15 minutes after a fine cross by Angelo before Roma struck the opening goal moments after Borriello had lifted a powerful shot over the bar.
Osvaldo tried to ease the tension among the home fans on 51 minutes when he drilled a shot at goal only for Siena keeper Zeljko Brkic to punch the ball out.
Jose Angel then did likewise for the home side moments later, but Brikic was again on hand to deal with the danger.
Siena thought they had levelled on 67 minutes when the energetic substitute Pablo Gonzalez got on the end of Emanuele Calaio's cushioned header only to see his header scramble off the line by Simon Kjaer.
Miralem Pjanic thumped a shot wide of the target for Roma on 77 minutes before Gonzalez seemed to have blown the visiting side's final chance when he skipped to the edge of the home area only to miss the target with his shot on 85 before Vitiello popped up with his late equaliser.
It prompted wild celebrations among the visiting players. Siena host Lecce on Sunday with Roma visiting Parma.
