Paris St-Germain winger Ludovic Giuly will miss the Ligue 1 grudge match with Marseille after failing to recover from a thigh injury.

The 32-year-old ex-Barcelona man has been out since the beginning of October but hoped to return for 'le clasico' down south.

"He is working hard and doing more and more sessions," PSG boss Paul Le Guen said.

"Now he has to digest this volume of work, this preparation.

"We will listen to him so he can return as well and as quickly as possible."

Le Guen also confirmed that he viewed the UEFA Cup, where they face Schalke next, as a distraction from the league.

"I simply consider Ligue 1 to be our priority competition - I have always said that," added Le Guen.

"But I made these choices in the cups last year and it went rather well (winning the Coupe de la Ligue and runners-up in the Coupe de France).

"But we want to go as far as possible in all the competitions we enter."

Former France international Giuly, who has also played for Lyon and Monaco, signed for the capital club from Serie A side Roma in the summer.
