Europa League - Hamburg anger at Celtic stewards

Eurosport - Fri, 23 Oct 00:07:00 2009

Bundesliga side Hamburg staged a sit-down protest after their 1-0 Europa League win over Celtic on Thursday when stewards denied the players the chance to celebrate with their fans, manager Bruno Labbadia said.

"I would have wished the situation would not have happened," Labbadia told reporters.

"We had 2,500 fans with us and we were told we could not go over (to thank them). The police actually told us they would report us to UEFA and I feel that is showing disrespect.

"A fine feeling and fine touch was missing there."

Angry exchanges between Hamburg players and stewards took place when the Bundesliga side were prevented from leaving the pitch after the match.

Police moved in as several players sat down a few metres from the corner flag before eventually going towards the tunnel.

Marcus Berg scored in the 63rd minute to give the German side a victory that took them top of Group C on six points.

  2. It was not a protest !

The Hamburg players always celebrate like this: they sit in front of their fans who start to sing and all players jump up and dance to the songs.

You better get some information, befor writing nonsense...

  4. McGeady is great to watch. Why septic have that cheating clown in their team is beyond me. He's overweight, overpaid and talentless. He's breathing like he has emphysema within 5 minutes. I only wish septic had more of the same.

  7. To the Hamburg team and fans,
May I, on behalf of the decent Scottish people, offer my sincere apologies for the attrocious way that you were treated by this gang of goons. It is to be hoped that you will treat them with the contempt that they so obviously deserve and administer retribution, on the field.

  8. Ryan, if your point (21) is correct then how many Celtic fans were actually at the Hamburg game. According to media reports there was an attendance of approx. 38,000. So if the majority of these were Hamburg/Rangers supporters, how many of your lot were there?

  10. point 48 yet more paranoia from the tims every time your team get beat the tim fans want to have a go at someone if its not the ref its the other team or the SFA or the media now its the turn of the hamburg fans just because they were chanting glasgow rangers as a noise up all of a sudden that means they were wanting to cause trouble according to the paranoid mob the tims are never happy unless they are moaning about something/ENGLISH SAM

  11. The Hamburg fans have had along relationship with Rangers fans since the 1970's.
At the time Hamburg had many Neo Nazi fans and affiliated themselves to the minority of rangers fans who
were members of the national front.

Last night there was 250 or more rangers fans in the crowd and alot of the Hamburg fans met up with them in the pubs around Bridgeton cross.

Alot of Hamburg fans were looking for trouble last night well done to the police for keeping the raners/hamburg fans away from the home support.

  16. # 35 billy....i know a glaswegian accent as i live in glasgow and believe me a lot of glaswegians at the game last night so how come the hamburg fans were drinking in bridgeton last night and not the city centre ? is it not the usual for away fans to have a drink and a wee look at the city centre before a match mmm when i go abroad you wont find the fans having a drink in the suburbs in these citys. and there is also a rumour goung around at the momment that a few fans from scotland are going over to hamburg to welcome the celtic fans all because st pauli fans have invited celtic fans to that area of hamburg for a small but freindly party.

anyway - couldn't care less bout this topic as we've got bigger problems than ppl havin a go at the stewards for doin their job. 1 up front at home - shockin, we were set up like a hun team!
p.s. cany believe the rangers fans feel the need to come to our european games. the big bad ICF from the glaswegian bar where runnin about london road before the game tryin to cause trouble. i happen to know a few of them who say all they ever do is run about lookin menacin but never end up involved in anythin, get a life support ur team stop actin like t.i.t.s
