Middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik has called off his WBC and WBO title defence against Paul Williams because of a lingering knuckle injury on his left hand.
Pavlik, 27, had been scheduled to face Williams in a December 5 clash in Atlantic City.
"We were advised that Kelly Pavlik's recovery of his left hand has not progressed as projected," Top Rank president Todd duBoef said.
"As a result of this, Kelly is unable to close his left hand which prohibits him from being prepared.
"Once Pavlik is cleared medically... we will pursue all avenues with regards to a future bout."
Pavlik, whose 35-1 record includes 31 wins within the distance, has not fought since February because of an injured knuckle that got infected.
He believes he first suffered the injury in October last year when he lost a 12-round decision to Bernard Hopkins in a light-heavyweight tilt. Pavlik went on to stop Marco Rubio in the ninth round of his second middleweight defence.
Williams, a 28-year-old southpaw with an aggressive style, has a 37-1 record and stopped 27 of his opponents.
In his last bout, he won a lopsided unanimous decision over twice junior middleweight champion Winky Wright.

think manny v cotto is the most exciting coming up for me
The difference is German-based fighters are so obviously sided by the judges in Germany it's untrue! Ottke v Reid and even Holyfield v Valuev are prime examples. Froch v Dirrell was difficult to score for 8 of the 12 rounds so it could have gone either way. However, WBC Judges have always had a tendency to give the 'come-forward' fighter the vote in rounds that are awkward to score, so even though Dirrell walked and danced and jabbed the last 4 rounds clearly, it's understandable why they gave Froch the verdict. Just. Kessler v Froch is the next fight I'm really looking forward to and we will see some good action. Both have granite chins and hammer fists, yet have no footwork at all. Bring it on!

those who spout on about home town decisions in germany could not brag about the result given in frochs last fight . i hope the judges remembered to pick up their guide dogs before going home
p.s De La Hoya mysteriously stopped using his jab against FMJ in the last 1/4 of the fight,I too trhink he'd done enough, but if he'd kept pumping that hurtfull jab out it would have been one sided.
Still think Mosley would have the answer to the FMJ question, comparable speed, heavier handed and naturally bigger.I predict Paquiao to get past Cotto and to lose on cuts or points to Mayweather,no fence sitting here ha ha though I could change my mind by tomorrow !!Fight of the century? well who knows it's got a long way to go yet,but certainly the biggest fight of the naughties
No x I think Froch won by a fanny's hair, simply because he was the belt holder,on home ground and forced the fight.Ottke would have beat Joe in Germany simply because Joe wouldn't have the punch to stop him and a decision against OTTKE on home territory was unthinkable,Joe would have had to knock him out in round two to get a draw over there. In Wales,Joe on points,Ottke had no puch at all but was no mug either
But that's not to say Mosley v FMJ wouldn't be a good fight too! Really upset Brook had to pull out of the Jennings bout. Looking forward to it. Cancelling Sky Sports subscription but which channel is the Super 6 tournament on again? And Jack, did you think Dirrell beat Froch? And Ottke v Calzaghe...who would have won?
Be honest Jack, he actually lost to De La Hoya. And Hatton may have caused FMJ more problems had he fought at Light-Welterweight. I do think FMJ is a fantastic boxer though. He's not a fool and knows when to drag people into his fight. He is adaptable, fast, impossible to catch cleanly...Pacquiao v FMJ has to be THE fight of this century...let's get it on! And you've answered your own remark there Jack....Mosley's speed, power and skill would be negated because FMJ is flawless even if Mosley is a natural Welterweight.
Corley,Judah,Gatti,Castillo,Baldomir,De-la-Hoya just off the top of my head these were all physically bigger than him,he negated their size with skill
28 eh X those were the days ha ha, got to disagree with your comment on FMJ being a bully. He's fought progressively bigger, heavier opponents throughout his career, don't forget he started at super featherweight and has took titles in all those weight divisions by fighting naturally bigger people,it's only his last 2 fights against Hatton and Marquez where he's been fighting people moving up to him.
Why Jones v Calzaghe? JC won! But if you mean during their peak...RJJ and JC never happened as RJJ had the speed and power to KO Calzaghe and RJJ wanted the Heavyweight title (which he won). He almost KO'd Calzaghe in their fight in the first round! As for FMJ V Pacquiao...FMJ to beat Pacquiao. FMJ's a bully on smaller opponents. He'll probably be clever and get Pac to fight him at light-middleweight!!! Lennox Lewis was one of the best too but his attitude was poor for a professional. That's why he lost to McCall and Rahman. He gave them no respect and paid for it (although he gained revenge in the re-matches). Oh and I am 28 Jack. I watched boxing from 11 because my Mum loved the sport. I used to love Big Fight Live on ITV.

Hi Jack Torrance. i think Jones to beat Toney. Leonard to beat Hagler. Ali to beat Foreman. Tyson to beat Lewis. Pacquaio to beat Mayweather.
Tyson vs holyfield at their peak?
De La Hoya vs Mayweather at their peak?
Collins vs Calzaghe?
Chavez vs De La Hoya?
Jones vs Calzaghe.?
Hopkins vs Hagler?
The trouble is the standout fighters of this era avoid each other. How many fights between each other did Leonard, Hagler, Duran and Hearns have, was it 11?
One thing remains constant though, when they get beaten it makes history -Tyson V Douglas
Roy Jones or James Toney? Hagler or Leonard,Foreman or Ali,Lewis or Tyson,Paquiao or Mayweather
Ive always found the whole p for p tag a bit subjective to be honest, especially when you have standout fighters in the same era
You're right with the analogy with FMJ, jack. Donald Curry was the p4p best at the time, and no one gave Lloyd much of a chance. He was British, commonwealth and European champion at the time and Curry was undisputed champion of the world with all three belts. When interviewed before the fight, Honeyghan declaired he was going to 'smash Curry's face in', and boy, he was true to his word. That gave him six belts (a record?).Maybe like Murray beating Pacquaio now - and convincingly.
Johnny Nelson, please don't remind me,the ammount of times I've spilt my drink falling asleep during his fights. My first boxing memorys are watching Alan Minter,Charlie Magri,Dave Boy Green et al yep 41 year old, think you must be in your early to mid 30's X ?
