World Cup - Ribery could miss Ireland play-off

Eurosport - Thu, 22 Oct 09:44:00 2009

France playmaker Franck Ribery could miss his country's World Cup play-off matches against Ireland in November due to a niggling knee injury that has flared up in recent weeks.

FOOTBALL 2009 France - Ribery - 0

France must get past Republic of Ireland to reach the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa, with the first leg taking place on November 14 and the return match on November 18.

"We have decided to allow the injury to heal," Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal said after his team's 2-1 defeat at Bordeaux on Wednesday where Ribery did not play. "This could last up to a month," van Gaal said.

The France playmaker picked up the injury during pre-season training and has not managed to fully overcome it, playing in only a handful of matches since the start of the Bundesliga.

  6. hope Ireland win, but i also love the French, we Scots would obviously prefer the Irish, am i confusing you? well both teams gave me nights to remember, when houghton scored against england that was amazing, and when Zidane scored two in the last minute i ran from the pub screaming and nearly got hit by a bus, it was brilliant, the bus driver must have been wondering what was going on as half the pub spilled onto the streets in Inverness with their France tops on, should be a great two games, looking forward to it, C'mon the Irish.
