Sir Alex Ferguson had no complaints about the artificial pitch at the Luzhniki Stadium after a late Antonio Valencia goal secured victory for Manchester United against Champions League Group B opponents CSKA Moscow.
Valencia lashed the ball home after 86 minutes in Russia to give the visitors a 1-0 win and Ferguson had no issues with the controversial pitch.
"I said before the game that if you're a good footballer you concentrate on the ball. I think they did that and they did it well," Ferguson told Sky Sports 1.
"We wanted to go for a surge through the middle rather than in the wide positions and I think that worked quite well.
"We had some good chances at the end of the day, we improved our goalscoring chances and we're pleased Antonio Valencia has got a good goal."
Ferguson, who had half an eye on Sunday's Premier League meeting with Liverpool, played down a potential injury to Brazilian teenager Fabio, as well as Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes, who both came off in the second half.
"Fabio was absolutely outstanding, the boy's magnificent for 18 years of age," he added.
"He's first-class, he just had some cramp, he'll be okay.
"I took Rio and Scholesy off mainly as a precaution."

Why Sir Alex insist of playing Bebetov as 1st 11, as he is one of the low scoring rate striker as compared what he has spend on pitch ???
united are rubbish so are liverpool ferguson is past it what will he kick off about this week give him a barrel of whisky stick in a glen in scotland the only way liverpool will win the title is if some scouser steals it benetiz could not manage a beach ball party score on saturday 0 0 yes 0 0
11. jumaford
Give it a rest, we've heard that a hundred times already, and I'm a United fan.
whats ship has never docked in liverpool? The Premiership!!! not mine but had to spread it everywhere
I've never rated Nani. Ronaldo was bad at falling over, Nani is worse. I remember one game where he head-butted an opposing defender, then fell to the ground clutching his head. We don't need that type of player at United. From what I've seen of Tosic, he looks to be a very handy player.
On Nani, I feel he's had quite a share in man u games to atleast step up his game. there were some passes he ought to lay for berba but he didn't. I feel it's time tosic come into the fray and begin to blend and gather experience with the older players like sir ryan giggs, veteran paul scholes and marshall neville
Andy T - I don't think we should look for similarities b/n Nani and Ronaldo... Nani could never be Ronaldo, he doesn't have that class. Being arrogant doesn't make you Ronaldo and this is the only similarity b/n them. About yesterday's game - I really think we should start using Toshic instead of Nani.
i thought nani had a pretty good game, he won the ball quite a lot of times off the opposition, and lost it yes i agree he needs to get the final ball sorted, can anyone remember another portuguese player that started pretty badly and his final ball and decision making was also below par??
How have actaul football comments got thumbs down and a ********** advert got a thumbs up.
Gotta agree about Nani, after only two months at the club Valencia already is in front of him.
Nani has had plenty of time and chances but is not getting any better, living on borrowed time at the moment.
Excellent result. United played them off the pitch and I assumed the Russians would be better but I was wrong. Nani was atrocious and really he should be on his way in January. He offers nothing of note apart from the old ghost in from the left and wallop with the right. It looks good when it works, mate, but when it doesn't, Row Z must keep the heads down. Akinfeev looked really solid and Fergie should really looking at him as a replacement for Eddie.
