Macclesfield goalkeeper Tommy Lee believes Scott Carson could be "scarred for life" after his blunder contributed to England's Euro 2008 exit.England went 2-0 down against Croatia when Carson, picked ahead of Paul Robinson, fumbled Nico Kranjcar's shot into the net and then Ivica Olic slipped in a second.

England's 3-2 defeat led to Steve McClaren being sacked and, according to Lee, could have a serious impact on Carson.

"Having made the decision to rest Paul Robinson it would have made more sense in our eyes to have gone with the experience of David James," said Lee.

"Now having made such a costly error he's potentially scarred for life and it's going to take a lot of effort to get his confidence back up to where it was."
