Macclesfield boss Keith Alexander insists his side are not a "million miles away" from being able to compete in League 2 after the 2-1 loss to Bournemouth.
Macc had taken the lead through Shaun Brisley but a Brett Pitman double rescued the points for Bournemouth, who went top of the league with the victory.
"Naturally I'm disappointed but Bournemouth are a very good team and you can see why they are top of the league.
"We're not a million miles away. All we really need is someone to put the ball in the back of the net to convert all our good work and I will be looking for someone when the window opens up.
"I played John Rooney on the left wing because I thought he would deliver some quality but when he had his chance he missed it, but that happens in football and you've just got to move on."
