Cobblers Find Winning Touch

Sat 22 Dec, 12:09 AM

Northampton rediscovered their winning form as they beat Bournemouth 4-1 to register their first league win in eight attempts.

Dean Bowditch gave Northampton a third-minute lead, the on-loan Ipswich striker seeing his deflected shot give Gareth Stewart little chance.

But Bournemouth were back on level terms two minutes later when Jason Pearce caught the Northampton defence asleep and Brett Pitman nipped in to beat Mark Bunn from close range.

Jason Crowe restored Northampton's advantage three minutes before the interval, heading home at the home from Poul Hubertz's cross.

The impressive Hubertz saw his free-kick go just over shortly after the restart before Daniel Jones increased Northampton's lead in the 50th minute with a low drive from the edge of the box.

Bradley Johnson added a fourth goal in the 67th minute, picking his spot to beat Stewart with a curling shot from the edge of the area after Hubertz did well to create the opportunity.

Brighton's encounter against Gillingham has been called off following heavy overnight frost.

The fixture had initially been given the go-ahead after a pitch inspection on Friday afternoon.

However, after reviewing the conditions for a second time, referee Mike Thorpe has deemed the pitch unsafe, and the game has been postponed.
