Gallen Strike Earns Point

Sat 22 Dec, 12:09 AM

Kevin Gallen grabbed a second-half equaliser as MK Dons moved six points clear at the top of League Two despite being held 1-1 by struggling Brentford.

On a freezing evening of almost relentless Dons pressure, Gallen's goal salvaged a point after Alan Connell had stunned the hosts with a first-half opener.

The home side bossed all the early possession and Gallen was wasteful when presented with two decent crosses.

But having hardly got out of their own half in the opening quarter of an hour, Brentford stunned the home side by scoring with their first real attack when a Ben Starosta cross saw Lee Thorpe nod back across goal and fellow striker Connell stabbed past Willy Gueret from eight yards.

The home side continued to press and should have equalised on the half-hour as Lloyd Dyer skipped past keeper Simon Brown only for Starosta to block his goal-bound effort.

The second half continued in the same vane with the Dons dominating possession and territory as a gritty Brentford defended in numbers and the equaliser finally came in the 68th minute, skipper Keith Andrews crossing from the by-line for Gallen to side-foot home.
