Barnet boss Paul Fairclough proved practice makes perfect as they dumped Swindon out of the FA Cup on penalties after practicing spot-kicks.Fairclough ordered his players to practice penalties leading up to the tie and it paid dividends as Barnet, 29 places below the Robins in the Football League ladder, booked their place in the fourth round with a 2-0 shoot-out win.
Swindon striker Billy Paynter went from zero to hero in normal time as he scored at both ends to take the match to a shoot-out, while Barnet were forced to play for 45 minutes with 10 men after Michael Leary saw red.
Paynter, Christian Roberts, Hasney Aljofree and Miguel Comminges all missed from the spot for Swindon with Anthony Thomas and Joe O'Cearuill netting for Barnet.
Fairclough said: "I made sure the players practised penalties and thankfully it came off for us. It was a warrior-like performance from our boys. They were emotional and spiritual warriors out there.
"What was remarkable about the achievement was we were down to 10 men. Over the last few months we have been showing real discipline, the confidence has been growing and the passion was there for everyone to see."
