Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood felt his side had resumed normal service with their comfortable Scottish Cup replay win against Falkirk.A Jamie Smith double and a Jeffrey de Visscher strike earned the Dons a fifth-round tie at home to Hamilton or Brechin, and the 3-1 scoreline failed to fully reflect their superiority.
Graham Barrett followed up his own penalty to pull one back for Falkirk but their goalkeeper Tim Krul pulled off several good saves, including a penalty stop from Scott Severin, and both Lee Miller and Derek Young struck the woodwork.
The Dons failed to win their last three games on the road - which yielded two draws at Falkirk and a 3-0 defeat by Dundee United.
But they are a different team at Pittodrie and they stretched their unbeaten home run to 13 games.
"That was a performance we have been looking for for a few weeks," Calderwood said.
"The chances we created were unbelievable. They are a good team and knock the ball around but we put them under pressure and were very solid, and when we had the ball we played some good stuff.
"Our big players played, Lee Miller was fantastic, Severin was solid and Derek Young epitomised the display.
"They have had a few weeks off without telling me."
Falkirk boss John Hughes called his team's performance "unacceptable" and questioned the spirit in the team after following up Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Gretna with a similarly lacklustre display.
"It wasn't good enough," Hughes said. "It's unlike us that we we have two games like that which are not acceptable.
"We were quite lucky to get the penalty and lucky to get away with three goals.
"I need to start bringing better quality players to my club if I want to come to places like Pittodrie and turn them over.
"We need some spirit in the dressing room. I have asked young boys to do a man's job and maybe it's time to get two or three men in there to help them."
Hughes confirmed fears over Krul, who was stretchered off in the 73rd minute after saving Scott Severin's penalty.
"It looks like he has dislocated his shoulder," Hughes said. "He is lying there waiting for the ambulance.
"It's a sore one but we will all be around him and be supportive of him and hopefully he will have a speedy recovery."
