Khizanishvili pens new Rovers deal

Blackburn defender Zurab Khizanishvili has signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal to keep him at Ewood Park until the summer of 2011.Georgia captain Khizanishvili, 26, arrived at Ewood Park permanently in the summer of 2006 following a loan spell from Rangers.

He is now under contract with Rovers until June 2011 despite having made only a handful of appearances in the league this campaign.

Another Rovers player who has been far from a regular in recent times, Republic of Ireland international Steven Reid, is glad to be back playing following a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Reid, 26, played in Blackburn's first three top-flight matches of the 2006-07 season but was then struck down by back and cruciate ligament injuries.

But he has now made 10 appearances for Rovers this campaign - the latest coming against Middlesbrough last weekend - and is hoping to finish the season on a positive note.

"On a personal level it is good to be out there," Reid told Blackburn's official website.

"Having spent such a long time on the treatment table a little kick here and a ripped boot there won't stop me. Unless it is a serious injury I won't be getting any more treatment, that's for sure.

"I felt in that second half of the match against Middlesbrough that I was starting to get up to that standard of a season and a half ago.

"I'm starting to get the fitness back and although it is going to take a few more games, it is pleasing to get another 90 (minutes) under the belt and hopefully now I can stay in there for the rest of the season."
