Malpas rues toothless Robins

Wed 23 Jan, 01:00 PM

Swindon boss Maurice Malpas admits his side failed to make their one-man advantage count after they lost in the FA Cup on penalties to Barnet.Robins striker Billy Paynter went from zero to hero in normal time as he scored at both ends to take the match to a shoot-out, while Barnet were forced to play for 45 minutes with 10 men after Michael Leary saw red.

Paynter, Christian Roberts, Hasney Aljofree and Miguel Comminges all missed from the spot for Swindon with Anthony Thomas and Joe O'Cearuill netting for Barnet to wrap up a 2-0 shoot-out win which booked a fourth-round tie with Bristol Rovers.

Malpas said: "We are disappointed but we are going to have to pick ourselves up after this.

"Obviously we wanted to progress but it didn't happen. I don't think Barnet threatened us but we never used that extra man.

"When it came down to penalties it can be a lottery - our guys missed and their guys scored, simple as that. Credit to them, they worked hard with their 10 men, and I'd like to wish them all the best in the next round."
