Grimsby manager Alan Buckley is keen to extend Sam Hird's loan spell until the end of the season but is awaiting a response from Doncaster.Defender Hird is currently on loan with the Mariners until February but Buckley is looking to negotiate a longer deal.
Buckley told Grimsby's official website: "I have left a message with (Doncaster assistant manager) Richard O'Kelly, to ask if they would agree to let Sam stay for the rest of the season.
"I am still waiting for Richard to get back to me, so we are in Doncaster's hands a little bit."
The 18-year-old has made just five substitute appearances since joining Doncaster from Leeds, but has started 12 games during his stint with Grimsby.
