Ward still wary of former club

Wed 23 Jan, 02:00 PM

Carlisle boss John Ward insists there will be no room for sentiment on his return to Whaddon Road to face former club Cheltenham on Friday.Ward enjoyed a four-year spell at Whaddon Road - in which time they clinched promotion from League Two - before leaving to take charge of the Blues in October.

The two sides find themselves battling at the opposite ends of the League One table but Ward remains wary of the Robins.

"We go to Cheltenham and I know how tough that can be," Ward said.

"They've won their last two games 1-0 at home and they've got players coming back from injury and if we are going to improve our away form that's going to be a stiff test for us.

"I'm looking forward to the game. A lot of very, very good people work at the club and it will be lovely to see them but I won't get emotional about it. We'll be trying to win the game just as they will."
