The 29-year-old former Scotland international has joined his old club for an undisclosed fee after signing a two-and-a-half year deal.

Dobie made over 150 appearances for Carlisle during his first spell at the club, before moving to West Brom in 2001.

Dobie was part of the Carlisle team that stayed in the Football League on the last day of the 1998/99 season thanks to a last-minute winning goal from goalkeeper Jimmy Glass.

Referring to that moment, a statement on Carlisle's official website said: "(Dobie) became part of Cumbrian folklore on 8 May 1999 when he rose to head a Graham Anthony corner towards the roof of the Plymouth net.

"The keeper parried it, of course, but only as far as a certain Mr Jimmy Glass ... and the rest, as they say, is history."
