Bundesliga - Olic, Eduardo and Frings banned

The German FA has dished out lengthy suspensions to Ivica Olic, Carlos Eduardo and Torsten Frings for incidents in friendly matches during the winter break.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 Bundesliga Hamburg Olic - 0

Hamburg's Bayern Munich-bound striker Olic (pictured) and Hoffenheim's Brazilian forward Eduardo were given five-game bans for fighting during a friendly in La Manga, Spain, despite apologising the next day.

They will miss two Bundesliga matches and three friendly games.

The double ban plays into the hands of Bayern, who lie second behind Eduardo's Hoffenheim and play Olic's Hamburg in the first game back.

The decision to suspend the duo for league play is unprecedented as, in Germany, red cards in friendly matches do not normally result in bans for competitive games.

Frings, meanwhile, insulted a Turkish referee before and after being dismissed in Werder Bremen's defeat to Galatasaray in Belek.

His three-match ban only applies to friendly games.

The Bundesliga season re-starts after the winter break on January 30, with Hamburg hosting Bayern.

  2. Bit of a coincidence that both Eduardo's and Olic's bans favour Munich. Yawn, predictable. That league is so corrupt and biased.
