Wind fails to blow BMW off course

Eurosport - Fri, 23 Jan 17:55:00 2009

Robert Kubica put another 116 laps on BMW-Sauber's new car during testing in Valencia despite strong winds battering the Ricardo Tormo circuit.

2009 Test Valencia BMW Kubica - 0

The second full day of pre-season testing in Valencia saw Kubica battle the elements to get plenty of laps out of the new Munich and Hinwil-based squad's F1.09 challenger.

On a cloudy day, Kubica covered some 465km, trying out a variety of set-up options and conducting some race start simulations during the morning running, but the wind in the afternoon reduced the exercise to a test of reliability through a series of long runs.

"While the morning was good, unfortunately the wind made testing quite difficult in the afternoon," the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix winner remarked afterwards, "but we still got some interesting results which will help us understand the new BMW-Sauber F1.09 better."

Team-mate Nick Heidfeld will take over at the wheel for days three and four on Friday and Saturday, marking the first time the experienced German will have taken to the track in the car since its launch on Tuesday.
