Two-goal hero Curtis Davies earned the full praise of Birmingham boss Chris Hughton after his man of the match performance in Saturday's 3-0 victory over struggling Watford.
The centre-back headed home either side of half-time to put City in firm command, taking his tally for the season to five, which includes four headers in the club's last seven games.
But Hughton was more impressed with Davies' solid defensive work, with the 26-year-old proving a pivotal figure at the heart of a Blues rearguard which has only narrowly conceded more goals than West Ham and Hull in the Championship this term - including just six in 13 games on home soil.
Hughton said: "Davies will attract the headlines but I am more concerned about his overall play, which at the moment is very good.
"We needed his goals but his real quality was at the other end. He is defending really well and Marvin Sordell is a very good player and we defended extremely well against him."

,.............the value of diamonds is how they are cut and how they are put together in a cluster ,....kro ,,...buster .....gut
promotion ,onward and upward, mmmmm. Its possible very possible. Birmingham have been unsung and crept up unseen by the rest of the pack. Games in hand helped to obscure the progress quietly being made by the chris team. Now they will be constantly examined by the opposition. No longer under estimated. To beat Birmingham will be a coupe for the lower teams and a must beat for the others who want promotion.
The promotion credentials will be fully known after the next five championship games. It includes three tough matches. If Birmingham can get 10 points from those games then everything is possible.
In just four months time Birmingham will again be a premiership team or.......
The season is just starting to warm up.!!!!!!!!
Agreed, for a bunch of "misfits" et al, we are doing ok thank you very much.
KRO and here's to Craig coming back on loan.
Well Done Lads,
I was there and the wind was so blustery it was hard to control the ball.In the 2nd half when we kept the ball on the ground we gradually started to take control of the game.In the end it could have been 4 or 5 goals.
Well done to all the team,Chris Burke was really great and caused all sorts of problems with their defence.Another great team effort KRO!!
