Double centurion Nicholls delighted to notch

Alex Nicholls was delighted to mark his 200th senior appearance for Walsall with the equaliser which secured a 1-1 draw at Carlisle.

The Saddlers were trailing early on at Brunton Park after skipper Andy Butler was caught in possession and Lee Miller tapped home for the hosts.

However, Butler redeemed himself at the other end by winning the 82nd-minute penalty which enabled Nicholls to clinch a share of the spoils from the spot as he brought up his double century in a red shirt.

It was the 24-year-old Academy graduate's 26th goal since making his first-team debut in December 2005, and the forward told Walsall's official website: "I'm chuffed to have played so many games for the club but even happier to get the goal to earn us a point. It's another good point from a tough place.

"It was pleasing to see the penalty go in, especially after missing my last one against Dagenham.

"We've been solid for the past six or seven weeks. Yes, we rode our luck at times, but we kept working hard for each other, created chances and got the goal we deserved in the end."
