Defender Jack Hobbs feels Hull proved their promotion credentials at the weekend by taking three points off Reading despite a below-par display.
Play-off rivals Reading made most of the running at the Madejski Stadium but Robbie Brady stole in for a 66th-minute winner to lift the Tigers up to fifth place, three points better off than the Royals.
"It was a very pleasing win and a big one for us against a very good side like Reading," Hobbs told the club's official website. "We showed we can mix it up and that when we aren't at our fluent best, we can hang on in there.
"They put us under a lot of pressure in the first half and we probably didn't deserve to go in at 0-0 but we did and credit to the lads for that.
"We started slowly but we defended very well against a lot of set-pieces and going in at 0-0 gave us a chance to go on and win the game, which we did in the second half."

Dunno George, I think JA is right, if we had won two nil we would have been in fourth place and many a title and promotion has been decided on goal difference before now!
Don't worry about goal difference, just keep getting the 3 points, and get an automatic
Spot, let others worry about goal diff.
Well done Nick, just keep doing the same thing one nil every week would do me.
Well done for that but i was supprised Josh King stayed on the bench for so long when we were struggling up front to keep the ball let alone score and another goal would have put us fourth but keep up the good work and Nick Pick the BEST Team for the day not just your mates have a good look at some of the others i'm sure we can improve our strike rate and we need to as i/ve said before goal difference will matter at the end of this season as the table is so compact at the top
