Rams eye up loan midfielder

Mon, 23 Jan 11:58:40 2012

Derby hope to sign a midfielder on loan before the transfer window closes, as uncertainty continues to surround Paul Green's future at the club.

Green is out of contract at the end of the season and manager Nigel Clough has said there is a chance that the Republic of Ireland international will leave Pride Park this month, so he would like to bring another player in as cover.

"We are conscious of Paul Green's situation, so we hope to get another loan midfielder in," said Clough. "I think one or two other clubs have inquired about him but there has been no firm offer. I think it is one of those where a club might leave it until the final week of the window to see if they can get him a little bit cheaper."

He added: "If no-one comes in with the right offer for him, we would be delighted to keep him until the end of the season and we will see if we can get him a deal on the table then.

"Unfortunately, we have been led to believe that he will probably want a bit more than we can afford. We would love to be able to make him a better offer but finances at the moment don't quite permit that.

"We have got other priorities as well that we need to look at this summer, so we will have to juggle things around and see what we can do."

  1. Not sure which down the road you mean D, both seem to be in the same boat for different reasons - Forest, no money left to buy or loan and Leicester, to much spent with looks like no Premiership return. Derby prudent situation with ability to loan/buy within reason and now real possibility of moving to the top flight within next two seasons in a PLANNED fashion.

  3. how soon we forget. Its not that long ago the wolves where at the door and the club looked like going under,we now have people in charge that want to keep the club with in their meens. Players have now gone who were being paid too much so lets get behind the club and stop bleeting.WEDONT WANT TO END UP LIKE THE SCUM DOWN THE ROAD DO WE HA HA.

  4. i dont understand how come derby got no money we have almost biggest gates in the championship and yet teams well below us in gates and league position can afford to buy players for millions and we can not even pay decent wages i understand we dont want to get in big debt now but if we got couple of decent players we could push for play offs

  7. Not the sort of player you want to lose but fine if he is pricing himself out of the 'Derby Money Market'. Cannot afford upset the rest of the team for the sake of one. Better deals will come when we reach the Premiership.
Trust Clough when he says he has othe options in hand - be interesting to see who?
