Roberto Martinez refused to get carried away despite his side moving 14 points clear at the top of the table by beating Luton.Despite a disappointing performance on the night, Tom Butler struck 11 minutes from time to finally sink the relegation-threatened Hatters, who had defender Sol Davis sent off in the 69th minute.
But Martinez insisted he always had confidence in his side to get the breakthrough - but insists there is still work to be done before they can start thinking about promotion.
"I knew we would eventually score and I must praise my players for their persistence and patience," he said.
"There is still a long way to go, however, before we can start to celebrate. There are 14 games left and still a lot of points to play for.
"During the first half we needed to find a way of getting through their defence as they were hard to break down."
